Re: remotecontrol account

Completed Cho Chikun's intermediate L&D. 90%+ solve rate. Many took 1 minute, so not easy, although all the shapes are fairly simple. Good satisfaction in solving them, definitely will try again sometime.

Cho Chikun's intermediate L&D, on problem 655 of 861. Still around 80%, some easy shapes, some hard. Grouped together and sometimes the next problem will be the same shape with a couple of extra moves to simplify it.

Keigo's Tesuji Dictionary, on page 288 of 637 (chapter 10). Still around 20 ...

Lots of good material on Sensei library for endgame.

This is a good practical approach without too much mathematics:

Out of interest, does anyone know where to find the pdf mentioned here for endgame values?

Cho Chikun's intermediate L&D, on problem 456 of 861. Hit a rough patch this last 20 problems. L and J looking groups with legs and alterations are giving me trouble. Keep going!

Re: remotecontrol account

Played around 20 games on OGS this weekend. Tried to play my best with moderate time settings.

Most of them are best forgotten, but there were a few games vs 2-4 dans that were enlightening.

Forgotten what its like to play stronger players as I usually play against same strength opponents.
I tend ...

That's pretty much the same experience I had with chess recently.

Dabbled in it a few times over the years, but last year sat down with some books and studied some tactics and strategy, a new pastime.

Got good enough to win a few games with minimal blunders by both players using a bit of strategy ...

Re: remotecontrol account

Hmm . . . Unless I have the wrong idea, I thought that you're supposed to play something like that right after white moves on the left. Let white commit first then move in in a way that counters it. White needs two moves on the left, and they say invade when there's one move left, right?

I've ...

My reasoning was that if white gets a move around the left centre, then it may be too late.

remotecontrol account

It will be good to make a record of study and track progress.

Currently as of March 2023, at or very near 1 dan.

Goal is to get the best that I've ever been at tsumego and tesuji, and hopefully make a solid 2 dan.

Going through Yamashito Keigo tesuji dictionary, its the new revision of Shuko's ...

Re: Path to 9Dan, step by step.

Currently 3d tygem, 1d igs and barely 1d egf here.

It seems when playing people who are stuck at 3-5kyu it's because they can't improve their reading/calculation.

I know the path for myself is to keep getting better at tsumego/tesuji, when putting in serious effort I notice very real improvement ...

Re: Path to 9Dan, step by step.

Enjoying this thread, and it's encouraging me to take up a dedicated practice again.

Mybe one day I'll finish off the Lee Chang-ho tsumego and tesuji books, vols 5 and 6 are tough nuts to crack.

Liking the games you post, you've got a good eye for those sneaky tesujis :)
