Re: learning together?

Re: Looking for a training partner

hi mnemonic,

i'm in theory about that level (but i have a hunch much weaker than you, we'd have to try i guess). i tend to agree with most wise people here, not because i know what i'm talking about though: i reached a sort of resolution that i won't learn any joseki/fuseki without understanding it ...

Re: Newish guy with questions! And intro

(i know this is old, apologies)

welcome, and enjoy. about players: igolocal i think is a work in progress (a very cool idea, for sure). i think your best bet might be to try to find a club close to you, and go from there. i had the same question as you, and realized that the obvious (google for go ...

Re: September DDK Swiss

unless i misunderstand this, only one of the stars of the first board can win this now, as a draw in a non handicap game is impossible (except maybe triple ko) (?). not that it actually matters, i personally had a lot of fun, and am looking forward to playing stef who is rather strong from what i ...

Re: A question about goproblems.com

here is what an actual pro had to say about this (just before becoming a pro)

Jochen: Do you sometimes study the "Lessons in the Fundamentals of Go?"

Hans: Sure. Also, I do two hours of tsume go every day. No difficult problems, more easy ones, but a large number of them. I put them into a file ...

Re: September DDK Swiss

how about playing one of us? i'm sure we can bend the rules somewhat ;). i'd gladly play you if it helps (something like: 0pt for me regardless, normal scoring for you, so as not to unballance the system?

Re: Hello im the new guy

no. or at least, that's not what _i_ mean. i feel gnugo is very consistently at a certain level. i'm not sure i'd be able to recognize it, tbh. it's just extremely consistent and reasonable. it doesn't tend to make you scratch your head in bewilderment "is he crazy or brilliant or both?", it just ...

Re: Hello im the new guy

If you want to use a program as an opponent to learn from:

a) You want one that is significantly stronger than you are so that you will get punished when you make a mistake (a human player your own strength might let you get away with bad habits). But the game is hopelessly distorted at ...

Re: Hello im the new guy

...... if you want to play a program, there are some bots on kgs (some "nice and weak"), and also "truly" free software for any platform, based on gnugo (linux, windows, probably mac too), but beware, gnugo is a bit too strong these days for a beginner........

If you want to use a program as an ...

Re: September DDK Swiss

wow. thanks so much for the reviews, chew! very helpful indeed. i feel i'm one stone stronger now (okay, maybe half a stone, one stone if i remember to apply all that in advance rather than reactively). thanks for the lesson

ps: it just occurred to me if i had used the [sgf-full] tags, you would ...

Re: September DDK Swiss

here are the games:

http://www.lifein19x19.com/forum/download/file.php?id=395

i felt chased like a common horse thieve . i finally made one huge mistake (after many small ones), but it turned out we were both tired after the "chase", so the mistake was undone by maere's similar one. overall i ...
