I believe that the list of competitors for the qualifier is finalized now--they had to wait until the last qualifiers were finished.
At the moment (for the FY 2013 budget), the pros will not receive a stipend, but they will be able to play in Korean tournaments and fully recognized by the KBA, and ...

Re: AGA losses in 2011 Congress
You are correct that it was not directly run by the AGA. Andrew Jackson and I (Lisa Scott) came to the AGA in 2009, before either of us had any official position with the AGA other than occasional chapter heads, and volunteered to run a Congress somewhere in the country at an undetermined time. We ...

Re: I did not renew my AGA membership.
Dear all,
My name is Lisa Scott, and I am another of the board members. Although I have been reading this thread since close to when it started, I have not been commenting because I am not sure of what I can add to the conversation, and I have no desire to join in any of smaller parts of the ...

Re: finding policy docs
We are actually working on creating a system of numbers and names for our policies, so that they can actually be found. Obviously, this entails actually going through board minutes and other documents that go back to before any of the current board members were on the board. This (in addition to the ...

Re: AGA priorities
This is not actually the only person being paid, but there are only a few people being paid for "casual labor" and the like, and we have been systematically reducing the amount that is spent on paying people. This is done through switching ti automated systems of various kinds. This is important ...

Re: AGA priorities
I would like to also thank everyone for their input. I agree with Daniel that soliciting comments from members is the best way to get a list of priorities that are really important to US go players. There are a number of housekeeping tasks that are currently being undertaken (for example, the ...

Re: AGA priorities
I know it probably won't happen, but I would still like hard-copy material (eg. a go magazine or newsletter in paper format).
It's more expensive than doing it electronically, so it probably isn't feasible. I would still like it, though.
There has been talk about making at least the Yearbook ...

Re: AGA priorities
This is just a quick reply, but I thought I had something to add. In terms of the website, we are currently in the process of a major migration and updating a lot of the content, so I think that this is the perfect time to make suggestions about how the content might be organized differently and ...

Re: Chica-Go
The University of Chicago go club is quite new, but it has been very active this year. We meet Monday and Thursday night from 7-9pm in Hutchinson commons (the southwest corner of 57th and University). We will not be meeting for the next two weeks because of exams and Spring Break, but the club will ...

Re: Where to hold US Go Congress...
Just so people aren't misguided (I know this is going back a few days in the discussion) ... the greatest portion of the registration cost comes from the cost of supporting the Professionals, the next greatest from comps or venues, depending on the locale and the cost of things like room and board ...

Re: 10 Rated Games and Continuous Membership
Personally, I think that there is some merit in a point system, but that we need to help chapters and regions to develop a stronger tournament schedule first, and that this would be a later step in a greater plan. This is certainly open to argument, but I think that we should not institute something ...

Re: 10 Rated Games and Continuous Membership
Sorry I did not get this correction posted yesterday:
I learned from people who have been involved longer than I have that my understanding was a bit off.
1) The WAGC points system is particular to that tournament, and concerns only the US Open.
2) There did used to be a Circuit, including the NJ ...

Re: 10 Rated Games and Continuous Membership
I believe that the points system is currently mostly used for the WAGC. There has been some discussion of reviving it for more tournaments, but that still has the problem of discriminating against those in the greater part of the country, who are not able to to fly to attend those tournaments that ...

Re: 10 Rated Games and Continuous Membership
I skipped the five or so intervening responses in order to say this, so forgive me if I speak out of turn, but the AGA pays at least the travel costs for most tournaments. Once the representative reaches his or her destination, often some or all of the expenses are paid for by the sponsor, but this ...

This is Lisa Scott.
In my research/travel so far, it seems that in most of the country there is actually more difficulty finding tournaments than people think. Even in Colorado and Chicago, which both have unquestionably strong and vibrant communities, it can be hard to find 3 tournaments per year ...
