Oh, hey, I wonder if I can still do these. Quick shot at it:

Side remark: oh, I didn't know Jacoby was a bridge player. He is a well known name in backgammon circles, too (IIRC he has a book, and there's a Jacoby rule for money play.)

Jacoby was quite phenomenal.

As a very poor bridge player, I always messed up my transfer bids.

I was unaware of ...

"Tom is three times as old as Mary. In five years Tom will be just twice as old as Mary. How old are Tom and Mary?"

I was curious to see if, with all the recent additions to Google, there would be an answer provided if I put this exact string into the search box. Alas, even Google doesn't provide ...

Why did you not mark the stone at E1 dead? It is not technically part of your seki (it's dead inside your eye) ...

Re: No wonder!

I'm currently going through some training at work, and it is reminding me why I should avoid going back to University. I am quite a terrible student. This kind of classroom learning is not how I learn, and it seems to me that most of the courses I took in University (and even back in grade school ...

Re: What to do as a beginner to learn go.

Hi! Welcome to the game! There's a lot of good stuff for beginners above me in this thread.

Another item to look at, though, is how you like to learn. Some of us here on L19 are pretty heavy into learning through study (problems, game reviews, theory, etc). If you find that enjoyable, more power to ...

I have a particularly varied background with technology. I have done front-line consumer support, front-line managed services support (consumer support = millions of consumer-level customers, managed services = one or a few corporate customers), product line maintenance and support (a combination of ...

Re: An Appreciation of Go (Marcus' Study Journal)

Hi folks! Felt like sharing another of my games. As usual, it's not stellar, but I was happy to come out of it with a win while allowing my opponent to live small in my framework (though I did try to kill, and missed). I've put some comments in the game, as a general guide to what I might have been ...

Re: OCA's log

I like leaving the aji from the s7 mistake for later, as it's often possible to reduce your opponent's territory later with the clamp at s8. Continuing at q2 and being patient can provide you with more options, depending on how your opponent plays.

EDIT: Seems I'm late to the party, and multiple people posted while I was thinking and posting about san-san variations.

I hane'd at six because that's what I usually do against a lone san-san invasion. I didn't know that the joseki differed here. Really, I had no idea If I'm making mistakes on ...

Only 5 stones? Should still be winnable at my level. Just becomes a bit of a handicap game.
