I was thinking about this as I was reading Kirby's topic on How do you stop thinking about rank?

There's a fun element to seeing my rank move up but, at least for me, there's a mild concern that I haven't really developed all the requisite abilities to be duly promoted.

The KGS rank graph is an interesting feedback chart because it gives you a daily assessment of how far/close you are to your next rank "promotion" and how any recent games (and the games of your opponents) affected your promotion progress. But does it also feed rank obsession? Do you like to see your rank progress this way or would you prefer to discover on your next login that the system thinks it would be more fair for you to be playing at one stone of greater strength?

I am a little affected by the rank graph, but probably more affected by a particular win or loss against a person of X rank.

I think it's another way to feed rank obsession. One more thing to look at that shows how you are doing. I still think it is pretty useful, though (especially when looking at other people's profiles to see about where they are).

Personally, I don't pay a whole lot of attention to the graph. Like Kirby, I pay more attention to particular wins/losses for each game I play versus my opponents rank.

Yes, I pay attention to my rank graph too much. It's something I would like to avoid checking as often, but I'm always too curious to pass it by. Yet it also provides a good timeline for my strength and can help keep me motivated, so I don't mind having it.

Of course, it's better to live in pain than to lose a stone in rank...

The ranking graph is pretty useful to me.
I see my rank graph and it's a warning sign telling me that I have to start working on game.
It also tells me what kind of seasonal pattern I took and where the graph dropped at the same time my marks fell. (then try to fix it)

It's odd, I don't frequent much, but I expected something mean from Helel and not nearly as meaningful... oh well
