REMINDER

Now the second and last voting phase has begun.

And in case you think that AlphaGo resp. AI ain't as important as other options: it’s not as if this poll would decide on what science would focus on in the future—in which case I might be tempted to reconsider—this is just ScienceMag’s pick for 2016 ;)

AlphaGo is currently #3

While it's true that many other discoveries are far more important, I'm still voting for AlphaGo as I see it as the very early step of solving artificial intelligence, and then use it to solve every problems.

Hi,
so far, AlphaGo is ranked 2nd at 14%, after Human embrio in a dish 20%, but nearer to the 3rd place Ripples in space time, all the rest is under 8%.
Go have been granted a lot of popoularity after AlphaGo breaktrough!
I am eager to know the result by next Monday (12/5).

Online playing schedule: Every tenth February 29th from 20:00-20:01 (if time permits)
None of them overly excite me. Perhaps the one about great apes reading minds does so the most. If AlphaGo is a pointer to the future of AI then it actually scares me because almost all scientific advances end up in the wrong hands.

Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

BTW, that will only be the preliminary result, the “top five”, which will again be presented for a final poll, so we all should return to that page on December 5 and vote again :-)

Hi, I agree, sadly to say it is kind of traditional that most of the scientific research is payed to develop new weapons and/or more money.
