TBH, to me this looks like some poor “jumping the bandwagon” by using a name for Go that has been made famous by the recent documentary “The Surrounding Game”.

Using 围棋, the millenia old name for Go in its country of origin, is jumping on a bandwagon?

The etymology between 圍棋 and 囲碁 is interesting.
( I don't know it. )

I don't think that the age old name is "围棋 Тhe Surrounding Game." The only difference from the title of the movie is using a different character (Japanese variant?) for 围 (clever way of avoiding copyright violation?).
