A while ago Marco Henkel shared an image of this postcard on FB, and I couldn't resist and purchased it in order to scan it in hi-rez b/c I wanted somebody to translate the texts.

Qucheng Gong was so friendly to translate the right text:

I will translate the right script - it is from an illustration of "Sutra of Go" from 1000 years ago. It describes the strongest go player. "Be able to predict all complicated sequences; Study all details of Go to be perfect; Win games without significant fighting." I think this definitely looks like AlphaGo. :)

But there’s more, and maybe somebody can also help with the back side and tell us where this is. UPDATE: See below.
I’d also like to learn more about those board positions, whether they are from some famous games or something. UPDATE: See below.

For some reason I can’t upload the images here (something about invalid format … has something changed here?), and I can't even link them inline from imgur, same error msg :-?

This game is available on the GoGoD :
W : Sun Ce
B : Lu: Fan
date : 196
comment : This is reputed to be the oldest game on record. It is preserved in the Song Dynasty go manual "Carefree and Innocent Pastime" but there are much earlier references to famous Games of Wu.

comment : The original does not specify colours or result. Yasunaga Hajime speculates Liu may have been White or may have made the game up. Lishan was a spa resort near Changan used by emperors such as Xuanzong to escape the summer heat.

On the right, we have a slight variation of 《棋經十三篇》之《合戰篇第四》:「善勝者不戰,善陣者不爭,善爭者不敗,善敗者不亂。Sensei’s library must also have a discussion of this. @배인철 or someone else would be willing to translate it into English soon.
and also links to Zhang Ni – “The Classic Of Weiqi In Thirteen Chapters” (11th Century) — would this be the same as the “Sutra of Go” mentioned above?

And as to where:

Ganzhou, Jiangxi Province...in front of a floating bridge
and he says there is also a third game there … hopefully we will get a photo of that also.

Here’s an image of the whole thing, all three games: http://blog.sina.com.cn/s/blog_4c4ad9c10102x0wg.html (thanks to Bernd Paysan on G+)
