The 1st T Mark Hall Memorial Trophy has just been held in the newly re-born London Go Centre, and there's a pile of photos from Gerry Gavigan:

https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipP ... VjUzR5bXdR

The old London Go Centre belongs to the time when many UK players were still in nappies or a just a gleam in their parent's eyes, and T Mark himself is regretfully well on the way to being as forgotten as the quickly replaced fourth at bridge (or was it whist?) in Kipling's famous poem.

But the new centre is remarkably like the old in atmosphere and décor, and is well located for foreign visitors. It also has an excellent band of volunteers.

As it stands the centre is still a fledgling. It took a long while to get this far because we (the TMH Foundation) tried to form a collaboration with chess and bridge players, but that foundered (although the centre is very kindly being hosted in a bridge club). At the moment the centre enjoys just a relatively modest subvention from the Foundation but there are already plans afoot, limited really only by how much time volunteers can spare, to do more and to offer more facilities (e.g. showers and sleeping spaces for overseas players).

Mark was possibly Britain's best rapid player, and so the first tournament under his name was this most appropriate one.

This was a great tournament. Good turnout considering that there were 2 other UK tournaments on the same day. Thanks to all those that made it happen.

The oppening of the Go centre back in February was a really great event too. Lots of teaching, and interesting events as well as a well attended tournament. I'd love to see more events in that format.

I see that the centre is twinned with a Bridge Club, that should add some stability.
Also appreciated a sign for Pixies in the first photograph.
