There are too many white stones compared to the black in the picture of Lasker which makes it look like Reversi but the Dueballs were prominent go people, not chess players.

It doesn't look like reversi at all, because then each stone would have to be touching some other stone diagonally or straight and the stones would be inside squares, not on intersections.

The reversi bit is a standard joke where I am from. Clearly it doesn't travel well.

Isn’t this the case everywhere where Go is played in public (cafés, pub clubs, etc.)?
I thought it was … I for one have heard “are you playing Reversi?” quite a few times, also from visitors who saw a board w/ stones at my place, and it definitely is a joke I have often heard or read from German Go players.
