They were mostly static; there were two shots of the same board and stones position from different camera angles, with perhaps a bit of panning (unless I am remembering incorrectly). The second shot (pictured) also had a hand reach over the board to place a stone (I timed the screenshot to capture the full board, without the hand obstructing it).

Hi LocoRon, Thanks. Very pretty. Based on this screenshot alone,
it seems they had a much bigger budget than Hikaru. :)

Online playing schedule: KGS on Saturday I use to be online, but I can be if needed from 20-23 GMT+1
Not mainstream (well, a lot of people visit this town during the summer), but I saw this figure in the front window of a board game/gift shop (they had the usual run-of-the-mill board games inside, not even a go board as far as I could tell) in Mirepoix, France. Looks like white plays horrible, but it seems to be a 9x9 board, playing go (playing on intersections, the way the rightmost player holds the stone)

Here is a blog quote I just read today.

Gaius Publius wrote:

Not what I would call a strong move, but I'll let that pass. ;)

Watching that other game I play, Magic finals from the Seattle-Tacoma Grand Prix (big open for all tournament) in legacy the winner Jarvis Wo thanked his father for learning him the much harder games "bridge, chess and Go" .

(Also I think he is correct if you get better at Go you get better at Magic, I am horrible at both, partly because work have made me have no time to study or play Go again and I tend to overwrite data in my brain)

In a kid's show "Girl vs. Monster" on Netflix, about 20 minutes in the main character's babysitter suggests they play some "classic board games" while holding a chess board and a travel go set. Later the board is shown on the table as the babysitter plays Jenga by himself.

My son was watching the show :) and recognized the games.

The category was called "go" and designed in such a way to look like a go board. a board was seen in the 2000 one, but obviously it had no depiction of a real game, just showing what a capture looked like

At the very beginning of the original 1954 Godzilla (Gojira) there are some sailors playing go -- just before an underwater explosion that wakes Godzilla. The board is knocked over.

Online playing schedule: OGS for most any time, IGS occassionally after 2130 CST or on weekends, KGS if necessary.
Not sure how mainstream it is but about half an hour into Mobile Suit Gundam Origin 1: Blue Casval, there is a character playing what looks like a computer version of Go with a regular goban as the interface.

Was watching TV on the iPad to my left while working on the big 27" iMac … suddenly I got excited.

Night Train (2009 film)”, I think it was around around 00:27:00, just before they want to throw the corpse out of the window when crossing the bridge (German TV, I don't know how much it’s been cut).

Sadly I pressed the screenshot combo too late, so on the second image most of the board is obscured by that flyer.

From those two pictures, this looks like a handicap game. Black seems to have every star point and white has played a two space high approach to one of black's corners in the lower picture, a classic handicap move. Also, the clamp against the side star-point stone is another handicap technique and, given black's weak response, I'm not surprised he needs stones against his opponent.

This is a repost from the AGA web site, but David Lee Roth, the lead singer of Van Halen, just posted a picture on his Facebook page of him taking a go lesson with Kim Myungwan 9p:
