I have finally got around to booking some diving for this year. I am doing the Deep Diver speciality in England soon, to let me get to 40 metres. (As I gained experience, I haven't had 100% success in limiting myself to 30 metres in the past...)

Then I play some Go in Japan in early November. Then I have a quick liveaboard in Thailand. Then home, with -1 days holiday left for the rest of the year.

We're going on Saturday the 29th from Ventura. It will be the second day of lobster season. :rambo:
If anyone wants to join, PM me soon. There were a few seats still open yesterday.

The conversation in another thread got on the subject of scuba diving, so I moved this post and the next four from there to here. -JB

Curaccao? That's on my list of places to dive. Maybe we can play a few games while I decompress.
How long are you there? Until the warrant expires?

There's no statute of limitations on callous disdain for the morals and practices of polite society. I'll be here for a bit. :D

Seriously though, I have a job down here now, and I'm fairly certain they'd like to have me for at least a year. If you want to come dive at some point, and you need a couch to crash on, you should let me know!

Didn't you have some proposal for a combination diving/go trip at one point?

If so, try doing both at the same time and post pictures of it =)

I'm pretty sure I've seen pictures of something very similar to this the last time this topic came around, but maybe that was Chess and not Go.

Okay, found it: http://www.lifein19x19.com/forum/viewto ... =10&t=8501 -- and it was actually both (though the Go related one looks like it's in a pool. ;)).

And it's good to see you back, Violence. Remember watching closely a number of these Malkovich matches involving you.

I was hoping to do something around the South China Sea. There are places like Surin, Sipadan, Bali, Puerto Galera, Koh Tao, Phuket, etc.
I'm thinking that there are a few pro-strength players in that part of the world who could be paid a modest fee to teach in the evenings after we dive during the day.

I'm half planning a trip to Bali in September 2015. It sounds like it could tie with Joaz's plan...

The attraction is, I believe, sun fish, sharks and manta rays. My last 15 or so dives have been in strong current and zero visibility in the UK, so it will be nice to do a warm dive with visibiilty again!

Bali is now booked in October for me and a buddy. If anyone is interested, pm me for details. We're going with World Diving Lembongan.

I'm diving the remains of the German First World War fleet a week or so after that at Scapa Flow in Scotland, so October should be a good month. (Scapa is a club trip, and is already fully booked, so I'd struggle to expand it to include go players as well.)

I first read "players like Surin".

I ended up getting a major neurological bend last year. I was walking my kit up a steep hill after the dive, towards the showers. I'd finished that weekend's diving and was going to rinse off the salt before driving home. Shortly after this, the world started to spin, I couldn't stand, and and I started to vomit. A week in the pot fixed me.

My ascent from the final dive was pretty good - I have about 25cm bouyancy control, and f0r a 6 minute safety stop - my buddy has minute or so of deco to do.

I'm now signed off to dive again, albeit with a 15m depth limit due to a likely PFO (hole in the heart). I need to consider if it's worth getting the hole fixed. The bend was most likely caused by a shunt through the hole due to the walk up the hill.

I suspect my foreign diving will be limited due to difficulty in getting insurance.

Glad to hear that you are well.

Of course you should fix it. You need to live long enough to finish our Malkovich game.

My bucket list is getting longer. Now it not only includes diving in Asia, but diving Cocos island off of Ecuador.
One opportunity is this: https://www.scubaboard.com/community/th ... 097/page-3

It need not be that particular boat nor that particular time.
The best diving is from June thru September, when manta rays, whale sharks, and schooling hammerheads can be seen.
http://www.divereport.com/locations/cen ... os-island/

The China option is still open, and now Cocos is too. Anyone else?

PS: The hammerhead schools at Cocos are huge:

Do they attack and eat humans, or only smaller fishes ?

There have been 17 documented, unprovoked attacks by hammerhead sharks since 1580 AD. No human fatalities have been recorded.

Great white sharks, by comparison, kill more than four people every year. Cows kill about 22 people per year.

You're safest in the water where the cows can't get you.

Hammerheads are awesome.

Here is a short extract from one of my Bimini dives:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=`

I had a cheeky quarry dive yesterday, to brush off some of the cobwebs.

Does that mean you are able to dive deeper? Did you get the hole fixed?

I definitely have a PFO. My sign off is one dive a day; 15 metres max; 1 hour max; no deco. The no deco feels a bit redundant given the he other constraints.

I can't get it closed on the NHS. However, my insurance may pay - I am hoping to get it done later this year.
