Post subject:  Mateusz Surma 2p reviews amateur games

We're very happy to collaborate with EGF professional Mateusz Surma 2p during the Dutch Online Go Competition (Nederlandse Internet Go Competitie or NiGC for short). We will be randomly picking a game from the previous round of the competition and Mateusz will review it. The playing field is broad, ranging from beginners (25k) to former and current Dutch champions (6d), so expect a wide array of reviews. I will be updating this post with the videos every week and announcing them in a reply down below.

If you're interested in the background of this competition, I've written an extensive post about it here.

Videos

  1. Filip Vanderstappen (5d) vs Rob van Zeijst (6d)
  2. Marcel Riedeman (6k) vs Wil Schraven (5k)
  3. Bart Caers (10k) vs Sander Polling (9k)
  4. Ger de Groot (1d) vs Roel Van Nyen (2k)
  5. Rob Friederichs (5k) vs Joost Winter (7k)
  6. Maximilliano Ciaffi (9k) vs Julian Gonggrijp (12k)
  7. Martin Bierbooms (1d) vs Frank Filius (1k)

New video by Mateusz Surma 2p (see video 2 in the first post). This time he's reviewing an SDK game from the competition. I really like this video, because it goes into a lot of fundamentals, so it's useful for all levels.

Those are some very insightful, thorough but concise reviews! Mateusz Surma does a really good job - good advertisment : )

In the second game, I'm interested in Black's better option instead of the kosumi ('a'), though.

My 2¢. For one thing, as we have known for a few years now, :w6: should be at b. More importantly, if you want to utilize the aji of that Black stone, isn't :b7: better at c?

For another thing:

If you are going to kick in the top left, isn't this the time? After :w2:, :b3: is a nice pincer. :)

This time Mateusz created a video review of a DDK game from the competition (see video 3 in the first post). It's a bit longer than the previous ones and full of comprehensive basics that I personally learned a lot from. Enjoy! :D

Mateusz has made two new videos, which I've included in the first post (videos 4 and 5).

I've added another one of Mateusz videos to the first post of this thread (video 6). It's a review of a game between a 9 kyu and a 12 kyu. I hope you'll enjoy it! :D

Mateusz has released his last video review for this competition (video 7 in the first post above).

I'd like to thank Mateusz Surma for his excellent lessons and I can recommend everyone to have a look at them :D
