Hey everyone,

I was curious if anyone has suggestions for tsumego books a bit more difficult than the final Lee Chang-Ho book, so probably around 3-5d reading level. Coming to the end of the LCH series now, so would appreciate suggestions (Korean/Chinese/Japanese books are fine, can read enough to use all these). Obviously there is Gokyo Shumyo which is definitely a good collection to go through, and I'm aware of Cho Chikun's advanced encyclopedia (probably a bit too easy). Igo Hatsuyoron is too difficult for me currently.

Thanks a lot for any pointers/suggestions! :)

I don't know about level, but Meijin Honinbo Shusai wrote a tsumego book that is available online at Japan's National Diet Library. URL: http://dl.ndl.go.jp/info:ndljp/pid/1104256

Here are the first and last problems in the book. Both are White to play and live.

I'm sure Bill knows this, but for others, it's this book.

Well, maybe. The book in the National Diet Library has 120 problems. SL talks about a book with 168 problems. ;)

Interesting. They do share the same title and author. I didn't look at little details. :)

Someone should double check (and also cross-check other problems) but I didn't see the first two problems in the National Diet Library collection among the thumbnails on the SL collection.

Yes, the Shikatsu Myoki is too advanced for that level. It's appropriate for 7d+ and is only slightly below the average problem difficultly of the Igo Hatsuyoron.

Simba: As for the free & popular classic problem collections I recommend the following order:

Gokyo Shumyo
Gokyo Seimyo
Xian Ji Wu Ku
Xuanxuan Qijing
Genran
Guanzi Pu
Shikatsu Myoki
Igo Hatsuyoron

(Sorry, I haven't got hold of the Wanhui Xianji, Yi Kuo and Katsugo Shinpyo -- so am unsure where they fit in here.)

If you have finished the Yi Ch'ang-ho life & death series, then you can breeze through most of Gokyo Shumyo & Gokyo Seimyo. But you should still master these; after which the Xian Ji Wu Ku & Xuanxuan Qijing will be good for your level.

I'm also doing the LCH series, they are really good but I think I'm not yet strong enough to be able to finish them :-)

I think most books have been suggested already except Tianlongtu.
Depending on what rating system your 5d is from (if it is chinese then you should be ok) you should be able to do this series. If you cannot find them then maybe you have more luck searching by the korean name: kweon kap yong.
They are from chinese 5d to 6d I think.

Oh and there is another series:

The series starts at 1d or so but goes up to 7. The last books should be good ?

Have fun!

Has anyone found a place where you can get Kweon Kapyong Baduk Academy Series?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just my luck... after spending a while looking for them and not finding anything, I decide to ask here... and then *bam* I find a place that has some of these books (though not all right now). Here is a link in case anyone else is looking:
