Tough matches for all my favorite players, except Peng Quan. It would be fun to see Ida overthrow Ke Jie, though it doesn't seem too likely to happen. Shin Jinseo has a "free ticket" to the best 8, but then again, we all thought park and gu li had a free ticket the first round, and that Lee Sedol had a free ticket this past round. I'm really cheering for Mr. Fang because he's so old, and also because IMO, Shin Jinseo is the no. 1 threat. Even if Lee Sedol and Park Junghwan are ranked higher, Lee is already getting older, and Park seems to not perform as well as he can in important matches. Meanwhile Shin has been incredibly strong this year (Or maybe I just happened to see all the matches he won, but none of the ones he lost), and he's so young. I really like Shi Yue, but he also has a tough match up. I'd say 50/50 for this match. The other four match ups are not really interesting, but I don't want a complete China sweep, to be honest. 2K and 5-6C and 0-1J would be a good result from the next round, IMO. |

Please note there is a new game record for the round 2 game between Lee Sedol and Kim Kiyoung. It was reported that the game was not completed recorded so an incomplete one was released. The complete sequences were later recovered (from video record, that's how I understand the situation). This is a new international tournament and the people organising it was not very experienced. They should get stronger players to help record the games. |

From what I heard Rui Naiwei told them that the record was incorrect, and Kim went in to correct it himself. |

As expected, Kang Dongyun lost (thought I would also cheer for Shi Yue, he's my favorite Chinese player). It is the first time for Shin Jiseo to carry all Korea's pride, I hope he could be mentally stronger than Park Junghwan used to be. |

Shin Jinseo seems to be extremely promising, and I think we could potentially see a shin-Ke era for a few years soon. Not very happy with today's results though, only person I wanted to win that won is Shi Yue And Poor Fang Laoshi, losing like that. And it's especially bad how the chinese commenters are acting. I mean, did you seriously expect Fang laoshi to win? There's no shame in losing to Shin Jinseo... Fang Laoshi probably already feels really bad about the game. |

There's no shame in losing to Shin Jinseo... Fang Laoshi probably already feels really bad about the game. About Mr. Fang's game, I think he misread when Shin does the hane at D12, and then he just wants to play the whole sequence to have a good place to resign. Thought I personally think that if he play C7 instead of B8, the game would be still playable, the pros might think that the gap is already too huge to catch up. Shin seems to be good in calculation, he usually outplays older pros that probably cannot compete with him in that matter (remember his match with Cho Chikun in the SS Cup?) |

Yeah, he probably realized the mistake quite quickly, but as Peng laoshi says, for an older player to have a chance against these super strong young players, they have to be leading in the opening, because there's no way they can compete in the endgame. If he's already behind in the opening, then he really doesn't have a chance anymore. Ida was doing quite well IMO, especially after he lived in the middle. But then he screwed up |

When is the 4th round? http://igokisen.web.fc2.com/wr/xa.html has no date so I'm guessing not soon. |

Maybe Fang Tianfeng was trying to set a record for the shortest pro game? He was some way off the mark though: 33 moves in 1965 from mirror of Bozulich's Magic of Go series: http://gostart.ru/e044.html Yuki Sataoshi wins in 38 moves with commentary by Dinersteain, plus other records sourced from msoworld site that's now offline (maybe in old GoGoD?) http://www.gosensations.com/?id=2&serve ... new_id=545 Short counted games: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=8079 |

This is not unusual. I've been reading a collection of 4 books talking about very short professional games. The set of books covers 50 or so games which are all quite short. |

The shortest official pro game is 2 moves. The shortest with proper play is 20 moves. The shortest between 9-dans is 38 moves. The shortest lost on time is 43 moves. |

according to Sina, this game is tied at 53 moves for a game in an international tournament, although the other game was only a prelim game, and not in the main round. One of the guys misread a ladder and resigned. There are only a handful of games in the main rounds of international tournaments that are less than 100 moves. |
