One could interpret Iyama's tweets to mean it was all an accident.

He appeared to say that :b4: was too greedy and :w5: was a good move that was a blind spot. This made it more difficult for him.

Instead, he tweeted (en: said) that he should simply live in the corner like this.

It's an amusing thought, that has occurred to me before, that Iyama's struggling dragons are all results of little things like this. I'm not sure if to call it 'oversights', it's not like it doesn't work out for him :D

Yes! I have seen things like this before, even in very important games, and I have thought (and written here), "did he not notice? wasn't he winning? is playing a gote move so unprofessional/forbidden/painful/human?"

I am a poor amateur player, and I usually think that perhaps, the game is closer than I think, and he can't really afford an slack-looking move. But when I see the result...

BTW, looks like there is little girl, a fan of Iyama, who has lost a few won games in the last times. Perhaps she is learning this too.

Okay, so I had my second 바둑 dream two nights ago, because before I went to bed I was thinking about why the 関西 reigon had so many good players, then I dreamt about 井山裕太 guest commenting a game . . . he was also playing live. Two 井山裕太's? Many 바둑 players are visual, but as an INFJ, even though I'd rather not be I am INFJ, I think of 바둑 conceptually, not visually. Darn it, I just dreamed for some reason I was playing a vietnamese lady who became pro, but she lost to me because she got distracted by 藤沢里菜先生's tweets? My perfect record now has two blemishes, I'm going to see if I can stay up tonight cause such dreams make me a bit anxious . . . But maybe it's a sign I should study 바둑 more seriously or something?

So, tomorrow (May 8th) is the first day of the last Honinbo as we know it. And Iyama is facing his 12th defense in a row, unless I am mistaken.

The challenger is Ichiriki, who seems to be in good shape, unless he faces Iyama.

This might be the last big Ichiyama match. And I think that Iyama is going to win again. Because it's the Honinbo, and he will pull every bit of energy he has. From now on, losing it would be like losing "a minor title" (nobody would really believe that, not form some years at least).

Iyama was winning his game in the Ranka Cup in China, but he lost right at the end . . . Tough luck . . .

Sorry, the game will be 18-19 May.

There is a mistake in https://gotoeveryone.k2ss.info/news/jp/honinbo/78/

Yesterday, Iyama played Ichiriki in the main event of the Tengen. 3rd round.

When I started watching the game, Iyama (W) was leading. And a bit later, was leading even more. That, if I had to believe the AI estimator. What if I looked to the board? What I saw was a big dragon with one eye and a ko to make the second eye. Sure, lots of ko threats (many local ones). In the end, the dragon lived, black got compensation and won the game.

Ichiriki is doing very well these days, but Iyama can still fight him evenly. They both are above everybody else. But with the Honinbo coming soon, when I saw this game...
As it's going to be the last "traditional" Honinbo, I'd like Iyama to keep the title. But I don't know what can happen... I bet we'll see more dragons die.

Ichiriki, apparently, on a 13 game winning streak with the Tengen game. Can't call that lucky!

I should post this in the Ichiriki thread but next three games on his schedule are games with Iyama in the Honinbo title match and a Gosei challenger deciding game with Yu Zhengqi is sandwiched between those games. Iyama is the current Gosei title holder I belive. The way most Japanese pro tournaments are scheduled does make it more interesting.

More Ichiyama today.

1st game of the Gosei. 4 hours per player. "Fast", compared to the Honinbo.
Iyama won this first game. And it even looked an easy win. Everybody can have a bad day, but Ichiriki didn't look like the solid player of the last few months. Perhaps because he ended his winning streak, or perhaps because, you know, it's Iyama in front of him.

Today, Iyama was the one on the offensive. He attacked a big group, and I have the feeling that he didn't try too hard to kill it because he didn't need it. Pretty one-sided.

Next 29th, they play again in the Meijin league. Depending on the result, the 5th game of the Honinbo might be very different.

The Kisei has a new/old challenger: yes, Iyama Yuta.

After he lost the title 2 years ago, last year he was close to even be demoted. But this year, he won the S league with a perfect score (5-0) and the only game he needed in the challenger tournament, or whatever they call it.

So yes, more Ichiyama probably in January.

Also, Iyama is 2-3 against Shibano in the Meijin, after a horrible start (0-3). We all love a comeback but will it happen? I am not sure who am I rooting for.
