I had to double-check that the capsule update report was actually written by Uberdude - seemed a bit uncharacteristically impolite in one or two places.

I also found it rude in more than two places.

Actually, how was it nice to read Uberdude's so-called "rude" update report on today games, instead of reproachs

It might be crude at times but I'm curious which comments you actually consider rude.

I disliked his comments related to players' genders or countries of origin.

I struggled here. I wanted to like that post for focusing on the important things, but could not quite like the fact that Cho has a haircut :).

You are looking at the wrong tournament. He doesn't have 22nd Samsung main tournament up yet.

This is an interesting position that occurred in the game between Komatsu Hideki from Japan and Kim Cheayoung of Korea. Kim plays white and she lost a group on the right side earlier. White's last chance seems to be in attacking the large black group in the upper-left, which she has been chasing for the last several moves.

It is white's turn, and in the game white played at "a" and let black live with "b".
Why didn't white go for the kill with "b" instead?

It seems that white's strongest continuation is to defend around 8 in the last diagram instead of 7, let black capture, then sneak out below 5.

Results of round of 16 with brief summary (hidden as some find my comments offensive rather than valuable)

Park Junghwan beat Zhao Chenyu. ---- "World champion killer" Zhao's run comes to an end. Park made micro-Chinese, Zhao 3-3 invaded the 4-4 and later invaded the side with cool attachment and ended up sacrificing several times to get his group out and counter attack Park's big wall, but Park weathered the storm and Zhao resigned in early yose.
An Sungjoon beat Ke Jie! ------ Shock of the round, An did AlphaGo-esque 3-3 invasion like Gu Zihao did against Ke recently, different outcome (that Blackie at BIBA had wondered about). Big ko which Ke lost, killed another corner but had to crawl on 2nd line a while. Ke resigned, behind more than komi?
Tang Weixing beat Song Taekon
Shin Jinseo beat Iyama Yuta ---- Big fight between 2 dragons, Shin's fragile net just held together and he won the semeai.
Tuo Jiaxi beat Lee Sedol ----- Lots of fighting, plus Lee ignored Tuo's 3-3 invasion, twice!
Tong Mengcheng beat Yamashita Keigo ---- Nice mutual moyo game, but in a trade Yamashita killed a group and probably reckoned he could save his bigger one, but didn't. So Japan out (neither that surprising: Tong is a solid world ~#30-40, and Shin was a very strong opponent for Iyama).
An Kukhyun beat Chen Yaoye ----- half a point
Gu Zihao beat Park Yeounghun ----- Chinese youngster beats Korean veteran.

Overall a good result for Korea, particularly the younger players (The 2 Ans (26, 25), and Shin (17), taking out Ke Jie and Iyama Yuta) though losing older champs Lee Sedol / Park Yeonghun. Gu (19) and Tong (21) are the only 2 of the young upcoming Chinese pros to survive.

Quarterfinal matches:

An Kukhyun vs. Tuo Jiaxi
Park Junghwan vs. Gu Zihao
Shin Jinseo vs. Tang Weixing
An Sungjoon vs. Tong Mengcheng

Korea players have done well in the recent major tournaments, with two Parks in the Mlily semi and favorite to meet in the final and the success here. Their head-to-head records against Chinese players have been impressive.

I was disappointed with the Japanese players' games, both were quick - by the time I remembered to watch they were already over - and followed similar patterns: when try to fight, a very big dragon dies.
Isn't there a proverb saying "big groups never die"?
