Lian Xiao 9p defended his Tianyuan title 2-1 against Xie Ke 5p. He had ended Chen Yaoye's 8 year run last year. I thought all 3 games were interesting.

In the first game Lian unexpectedly died at the end, you don't often see pros dying like this. He obviously could have lived by answering black's poking around on the top more cautiously, was it a misread or a "if I answer safely then I got pushed around and will lose so let's go out in a blaze of glory"? Interesting sacrifice at bottom right coupled with the top right 3-3 invasion earlier too.

Second game had more AlphaGo style early 3-3s. I don't really understand how losing the L18 stones can be good, but he got some centre thickness which later resulted in an interesting trade on the left side.

In the third, more 3-3s and pretty cool sacrifice from Lian at top right to build centre, and then Xie returns the blunder favour at the end?
