There is no "Shija Yuan".
Please read this for proper transliteration in English: http://www.usgo.org/news/2018/07/the-po ... ad-in-mei/

It says:
"He was born in Taiwan, where he is known as Hsu Chiayuan (Xu Jiayuan in Pinyin)".

Sorry about miss pronounciation. I am Korean and reading Korean article and trying to make sounds as close as possible. What do I know about Chinese pronouciation. If you guys don't like it, you should try to help not complaining. Or I will stop posting any.

trout is an old Korean baduk fan who for many years gave reports on pro tournaments here from his Korean sources with his transliterations of names to Latin characters. He left L19 a while back but has now returned. I am happy to see this, and welcome his reports despite, or even moreso with, his quirky transliterations. I think we should welcome instead of chide him. Treat it as a learning opportunity for comparative phonology.

Thanks trout!

Weird shape from Yamashita Keigo vs Gu Zihao, I checked with LZ and she likes it too:

Results:

Ke Jie beat Kim Jiseok by resign in 90 moves (AG joseki and fighting based on them workshop)
Gu Zihao beat Yamashita Keigo +Res
Chen Yaoye beat Park Junghwan +Res (slight surprise given Park's world #1 but Chen has good record against him)
Dang Yifei beat Kyo Kagen +Res (big fight)
Shibano Toramaru beat Tan Xiao by 0.5! Go Japan!
Byun Sangil beat Xie Erhao by 0.5
Shin Jinseo beat Wang Yuanjuan by 1.5
Iyama Yuta beat Lian Xiao (resign at end, 2.5 i think)

P.S. Suprised Mi Yuting wasn't invited but I suppose they went based on him doing badly last year (not making it through prelims) rather than being current Chinese #2.

Agreed. Your updates are wonderful, Trout.

I myself have no hope when I see the Chinese name of a player who I've known via reading the English transliteration of the Japanese version of their name (I hope that sentence makes sense, but I'm no linguist).

Edit: reduce quote surface

Interesting meta-point that it seems as if Iyama will play three games in three days, traveling from China to Japan then back to China, with the second game being do or die for keeping his septuple crown. https://gotoeveryone.k2ss.info/jp/gosei/

Previously this kind of scheduling issue travel had been cited as a reason for Japanese title holders not to participate as often in Chinese/Korean events.

I don't see anyone chiding him? Did sorin do anything more than try to help by showing the right transliteration?

The challenger Kyo Kagen also plays in this tournament (eliminated today by Dang Yifei) so is it possible that they reschedule the Gosei game?

But it wasn't necessarily, especially after Uberdude already replied to answer whom the player is and trout thanked him in return. To dwell on that point and with the way it was written, it definitely felt aggressive.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound negative: I wanted to emphasize the "official" names, since I find very confusing to read non-official variations.

I appreciate and enjoy your updates very much, please keep posting!!

How to beat Ilya Shikshin? Bait him into capturing a bunch of your stones whilst you build a massive moyo that's practically territory in the process. LZ says b10 should be f10: white should come out rather than allowing sente seal even if that does capture some stones. Black was at 80% after the squeeze.
