Someone published on YouTube the first video of the current Shin Ryusei. If I'm understanding it properly, they're using Fischer timing (1m+5s/mv). The video description includes links to the official pages.

Take care.

I watched that video and it really seems like the player that gets in the flow has a big advantage. Reading on their opponents time, having a stone ready. It's a wild setup.

Also, I have never seen a player hover their hand across the span of the board with a stone in hand before this. No time to make your decision before raising the stone it seems. I had second-hand stress from watching them play so quickly.

It's too fast for anything but entertainment. The whole production aims at excitement rather than serious go. No prospect of either player playing at their best. I enjoyed watching, though, and came away with respect for how fast pros can read. There was one educational point at the end of the show, where Kobayashi Satoru pointed out a myoshu in the center that Cho missed, though how could you blame him at that speed? This format looks like bullet chess. Those games are played on computer rather than over the board and there is a phenomenon known as "premove". A player who anticipates the opponent's move can pre-move a response, actually clicking on the point before it is his/her move. Then if the opponent actually makes the anticipated move the response occurs with no time used. Naturally this can't be done in person over the board.

From what I could get, he pointed out the winning move (three in a line) and said it was amazing that Cho found in 5 seconds
