One of the more interesting sideshows that keeps running in go is the record for the number of career wins in Japan.

As of 2010-12-02, Cho Chikun has just nudged back into the lead with a record of 1364 wins, 733 losses, 3 jigos and 4 void games.

He is now one ahead of Rin Kaiho on 1363-840-1-2, but Rin has finished his games for the year whereas Cho has one left, so he may edge further ahead. Of course, in percentage terms, Cho is already out of sight.

GoGoD has 1927 of Cho's games, and 1598 of Rin's, with 87 being between them (but still counting!).

What is their win record between themselves?

They played 47 games with Cho as White and Cho won 28 (59.6%) and 42 games with Cho as Black, Cho winning 22 (52.4%).

Best wishes.

Nothing negative intended, but how come GoGoD is missing so many of Cho's games? I mean, it's not a lot, but it's more than 100...

Mostly, the very early Oteai games are the ones that are most difficult to get, since very few are published. There are also some that were played in the early rounds of tournaments that don't get to the magazines or yearbooks. I do turn up some where he had played Kansai Ki-in professionals and they get into the Kansai magazines and occasionally find bound copies of Go Weekly with some, but for the remainder we are going to have to wait until the "Complete Games" are published.

Best wishes.

So one could say, then, that the missing games are "minor" games?
