Lee Sedol's play in the afternoon is a kind of incomprehensible.

Thank you for the link, bitzi. At this hour it doesn't seem to be working anymore, is there any alternative link? Someone else has this problem?

Lee SeDol won 3rd game by resign and took Chunlan cup.

Beginning of 3rd game was same as 2nd game but Xie He changed in move 29. Very interesting game. They must have researched this joseki(Brand New one) over night to cope new move from opponent.

The new variation is really interesting and Younggil says he's going to comment one of these games.

Even though I'm a big Lee Sedol fan, I feel sad for Xie He. I really thought he might win this one. He's still in the LG Cup, so maybe that's his next chance.

Jing has written two articles on Go Game Guru about the this final. Here's her latest one: Lee Sedol wins 8th Chunlan Cup

I hope he at least makes it to the final of the LG, but then again his next opponent (Heo Yeongho) was the player I picked to win the tournament!

If he does reach the LG Cup final, regardless of winning it he will be promoted to 9 dan. Quite a late promotion in my opinion, but what can you do with China's ridiculously hard promotion system? (Tuo Jiaxi 3 dan and Zhou Ruiyang 5 dan are the most glaring examples).

Funny that you should mention those two just now, they're the next two players in the Top 20 players series which will be published soon :). They're also the only two players of those 20 that Younggil doesn't know, so Jing is writing about them instead (just this once).

Anyway, Younggil has commented game three of the 8th Chunlan Cup for us.

It turns out that Younggil thinks the new variation in game two was actually good for white, if Lee hadn't tenukied to take the big point.

I was a bit surprised to find a Sensei's page about that variation (the older one, not the new one):

http://senseis.xmp.net/?44PointStaircaseJoseki

I added a diagram from the game, hopefully people will do some more looking. The page is a bit of a mess actually, it'd be nice to clean it up some.
