Sorry for all the new thread spam...

Just thought I'd bring this up, not sure if this is the place for it or not. Guess it kind of fits under the "Moving from godiscussions.com: omnibus mothership überthread" but definitely needs discussion.

I've noticed that there are a number of people that have started to set up shop over at the Dojo. I don't want to slight the work that Chuck Thomas has already put in getting us some thing set up over at shodanimports (or the new domain that it should be getting shortly), but it looks like this is coming along very nicely here.

We already have better numbers, and old regulars, who have registered here and started posting, and we also seem to have a very solid group of individuals who are willing (and already have) put in a decent amount of work to get this place up and running. (Tip of the hat to Kirby and Jordus both for setting this place up and getting the go diagrams up and running so quickly.)

I guess the main thing I want to bring up: what is the best way to "get the word out" to the community? This is really going to come down to getting a specific location and adoption, or we get the splintering. I think these things should work themselves out in time no matter what happens, but the faster we can get this done, the healthier the community will be.

In my opinion, spreading the word through KGS is the best way we can attract both new members and the veterans from GoDiscussions.com. The person who has control of the GoDiscussions channel on KGS has great influence here.

I don't think splintering is (or should be) too much of a concern and having more than one place to "congregate" is healthy. In fact, cross fertilization may strengthen both forums. Dojo will be known for X and Life in 19x19 will be known for Y. By the way, I'm trying to figure out a good abbreviation for this place:

L19
LI19
Life1919
1919
Life
19x19
19

The domain doesn't lend itself all that well to abbreviating.

I personnally don't think 2 forums with the same goal is a good thing.

I subscribed to this one just because most people from GD were already there, and that I knew Jordus from GD, this isn't the case for Mr Thomas, even if he looks a nice person.

Abbreviation can be simply L19.

My main concern about the Dojo is that the server appears to host a commercial site as well. As such, in the event that Mr. Thomas gets tired of forum administration work, he will not find it convenient to allow others to have access to perform some of the necessary maintenance work.

Actually, Mr Thomas is also from GD, username "shodan" (15 posts)

This. I think between the two forums, the Dojo has a higher likelihood of falling into the same path as GD because of this very reason.

no, he's already stated that this is not true. In fact, Kirby is already an admin over there (as well as here)

Oh? I mean things like SSH and database access. The ability to modify installed software, such as patching for security holes. If so, I stand corrected.
