It's Thanksgiving eve, and I'm back on L19 after a busy week. All appears to be well here.
Before I get bloated on turkey tomorrow, I wanted to mention what I'm thankful for.

I'm thankful for:

Trout and Logan for translating and posting lots of Asian tournament info
Bill Spight for his generosity, giving lots of advice without ever being critical.
EdLee for his advice in the game analysis forum and mod duties.
Kirby, who built a lot of this site years ago - I'm still discovering new funtionality that he wrote.
Mitsun, Ez4u, Uberdude for their mid-dan level advice in the game analysis forum.
TChan for lots of useful links and vigorous anti-piracy efforts.
Jordus for starting this site.
Bonobo, Skydyr, Daal and others for alerting admins when things need fixing.
Araban for deleting spam.
Magicwand for playing almost anybody - even if they are much weaker.
John Fairbairn for his deeply considered and detailed posts.
HermanHiddema for his valiant efforts to revive the L19 tournament.
Chew Terr for greeting all the newbies and helping moderation.
Inkwolf for Aji's Quest
Friedrice for never having wasted server cycles.

There are no doubt a handful of other names that should be on this list, but I don't visit all the subforums and I don't read all the posts. So if you contribute a lot but are not mentioned here, please note that I just may not have noticed.

Happy Thanksgiving to all,
JB

Thanks to you, too, for all your work, and for being a real person here, with us, rather than a no-face admin :-)

And thanks also to all the other nice folks here, you have really grown dear to my , it’s amazing how this still happens after being online and participating in virtual communities for over 20 years.

Let me embosom you all in a big hug: (L19)

:-)

Greetz, Tom

Haven't been on for quite a while - life happens, usually checked at work, lost the work, blah blah, still doing well - and came back and saw this post first. :D

Thanks Joaz. And thanks to everyone that makes this place what it is!

And Happy Thanksgiving! May all your stomachs be full and (at least slightly) bloated with wonderful food.

Dang! I'm getting senile. How could I forget Daniel Smith's DailyJoseki? It is not part of L19, but I use it frequently.

It is now the day before Thanksgiving, 2014.

The last year has been remarkable for the lack of significant problem threads. Thank you one and all for your restraint and your contributions.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I am thankful for so many things, but this year the highlight thing to be thankful for for me has to be having a boss who is a bro, and coworkers who treat me kindly.

It is a few days after Thanksgiving. The forum has been so free of problems that I tend to take it for granted. It only becomes obvious when something goes wrong - as it has today.

Thanks, Joaz—what a GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR A DONATION to our favourite Go forum! :D

(It’s easy, just click the orange “Donate” button in the top right corner of this or any other L19 page!)

If I were you I’d schedule such problems to happen regularly every Thanksgiving

<edit>

My thanks must, of course, be extended to include Kirby, Solomon, and whomever else who invests their precious time to allow us to have a good time here!

Thanks for the sentiment, Bonobo.

To be transparent about the issue, however, was any action taken to address this specifically? As far as I can tell, nothing was done to fix the problem through the forum software (though, that may have not been the problem).

Did one of the admins call the provider to resolve the issue?

Was the site under attack ?

The message I got was this (emphasis for user code added by me):

Quote:
General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysql4 ]

User lif1005808362083 already has more than 'max_user_connections' active connections [1203]

An sql error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact an administrator if this problem persists.

The code for the user seems NOT to have been unique for the user viewing the page since it is the same code that Robert Jasiek also posted in rec.games.go.

Tom! That particular user ID could be the culprit...

rec.games.go is still alive? !!!!!!
I thought that had gone the way of the dinosaurs.

It's not a user ID. The error message is related to the connection to the hosting service.
