50 to 50.5, white wins by a half point.

Spoiler:
I do not think so. I am actually not sure how to count this game. Tygem and Zen think black (me) has won. But what about the seki in the middle. Am I blind? I think white has won by around 5.5 points. What am I missing.

P.S. Sorry Kirby, I think you are correct. I missed to mention white is 15 vs 10 captures ahead. Tygem and Zen are not able to sense the seki it seems.

Ugly game by the way  :D
Lots of blunders on both sides.

Should have offered this game to my opponent, but perhaps he did not care for the tygem seki error.

Yeah I don’t know if I was right - I posted while driving, and had to watch out for pedestrians.

Maybe not the best idea.

I’d recount now, but I have to fix our sink.

Black made the last play, so if we let White fill the eye in the seki and remove the dead stones the territory and area results should be the same. Then I get Black ahead by 1 pt. on the board. Minus komi that yields a White win by 5.5, which is what Kirby found. :)

That is also consistent with the result of 8.5 for Black if the seki were Black territory, since that territory would be worth 14 pts. 8.5 - 14 = -5.5.

  You count games and write posts whilst driving?! That sounds dangerous and presumably illegal.

Yeah, bad idea. I’ll stop.

Don’t worry, I’m not driving in writing this post.

having been born with two left thumbs, the skill of Petit Point is beyond me, so when it comes to counting you can count me out, so Bill's observation made me do a doubletake because i had naively believed that Chinese counting meant you could fill in your own territory and it won't make any difference so long as you don't go as far as reducing yourself to one eye of one point and let the other guy capture.

it took me a while to realise that playing a seki out is not the same as leaving it there, because it depends on the number of stones in the inner circle.

for me, this raises a fundamental issue: the new Old Cow's play is so graceful, it looked to me for all the world as if she were pointing the way to a mathematical theory of Go - but as She who Must be Obeyed and all her clones are even worse than me at counting (they can't even see eyes, never mind sophistications like seki), that means that when there is a seki on the board, they get it fundamentally wrong - in Gomoto's example, giving a white win to black.

So the way to beat She at her own game (let's face it, she owns the game right now) is to create lovely big sekis everywhere you can and with her three left thumbs, she will fall over her own feet.

Someone should tell KJ.

But i'm left with a puzzle: since Leela can't see eyes, and only knows about no suicide, why doesn't she reduce her own groups to a single eye of one point? Ah! Doh! Of course, it's because she can see that if she did that, she would lose. Phew!

btw, no problem playing Go on your ubiquitous cellphone (i heard that newborn babies now come out with a cellphone already in the mouth) whilst driving in London, since most of the time you are stationary in a gridlock and in no danger of scoring points for getting pedestrians.

btw2, i'd never tried it before, but i let Leela have her head and watched to see what she would do. She immediately went On Tilt both as black and as white, which was one surprise - i had thought they only did that when losing beyond redemption. But an even bigger surprise (perhaps the cause?) was that she became schizophrenic: her left brain arguing with her right about who will win, each 100% sure they were right, with her overmanager averaging them out, coming up with win% of 50% when even i could see it was all over.

PS it's kind of humbling to chew on the fact that Leela can knock me on the floor with one hand behind her back, given that she is an even bigger Twit than Papa Don MacDuckface.
