From now I'll start a lecture here in L19.

This will be about common mistakes usually seen in kyu games, and how to punish them.

The resources will be from Kim Seong Ryong 9p's video lectures in Hangame Baduk (a Korean go server). I will make them in sgf files with some of my own edits.

Feel free to post questions in this thread.

Thanks! The lessons so far are all nicely presented. They are easy to follow, to navigate and to understand. Good job!

This is great. Thank you.

You could start the games one move forward, so people can scroll and identify each lecture by the starting image.

You could also add on that "move 1" the title, your name, a link to this thread, etc. In case these sgf are stored for posterity

First of all: Thank you very much for your lectures! =)

I learned that the Shimari is actually equal to a wall with three stones (it's three points high), so B always made sense to me. Similiar, I try to differ between making an extension to claim an area and making a base to secure your group. As far as I know the proverb only "applies" to the latter.
But on the other side, I think, it is possible to escape from an invasion in the middle of the three stones. (It's not good so early in this game, sure.)

[go]$$Bc Invasion Aji - Black can't cut at 'a' without losing the corner
$$ ------------------
$$ . . . . . . . . . |
$$ . . . . . . . . . |
$$ . . . . X 5 6 . . |
$$ . . . . . 4 X 7 . |
$$ . . . 8 a 2 . . . |
$$ . . . . 3 . O . . |
$$ . . . . . 1 . . . |

$$ . . . . . . . . . |
$$ . . . . . , O . . |
$$ . . . . . . . . . |
$$ . . . . . . . . . |[/go]

This is the common Aji-example in Kiseido books ^^ There are propably a few more variations, but I generally say/teach these days, that even when an invasion works (e.g. run out), it's more important to assess what your opponent can do with his strong positions. In this example, all corner probes and a lot of Aji vanished and R10 becomes weaker.
