Does anyone know anything about this book? If it'll help me improve, I'll definitely try and get it. But I'd rather hear some feedback on it first if at all possible.

I read Double Digit Kyu commentaries and found it very useful. It was a mistake book which I always enjoy. Not hugely relevant to you perhaps. :)

You should not expect deep analyses of kyu player games. You will find some hints and corrections of common mistakes. If you like to replay games from the teaching ladder than you will like this book.

I don't think it's a must have book but it's worth it's money.

You can read the first game review in the Go Books app if you own an Apple device.

So is there a second book for DDKs? I share the idea that a mistake book is a good approach for that level, in fact I have started to write such a book myself. Probably I do not run into the danger of producing the same kind of book as Zhou Yuan even if target audience and analysis of mistakes are the same. Nevertheless, I would like to create something new without too great accidental overlapping topics (except for those that cannot be avoided, e.g. surely there must be something on life and death).

Therefore I am interested in the topics or chapter titles of Double Digit Kyu Commentaries or Single Digit Kyu commentaries. Which are they? How many "pages" (if one imagines printing) does either book have? Do the books show only games (+ comments) or also some general advice (for example, which - without revealing too much of the book)?

I don't remember it all exactly but I can reskim it if you like. The book was broken up into several games, in each game crucial flaws were pointed out by Zhou Yuan and better alternatives given. The games were taken off KGS I believe. I can look into it further if you like and list out the kinds of mistakes dealt with, it'd be no harm for me to reread bits of the book anyway.

If the mistakes are commented just somewhere in the text, you need not look into the details because I know the kind of mistakes that can occur. Only if they are placed prominently in the chapter headings (are there any other than Game 123456?) or in general advice (such as a prominently placed principle "Connect your weak important stones to your living stones!"), it would be nice to have at least a rough idea of what his book(s) are all about.

So is it right that there is also a second (e)book for DOUBLE digit kyus?

There is one book by Neil Moffat called Double Digit Kyu Games, and two by Yuan Zhou called Single Digit Kyu Game Commentaries 1 & 2. All by Shell and Slate. Apologies if I gave the impression that Yuan Zhou wrote the DDK book, that was not my intent. In the DDK book there are six chapters with six games in them ranging from 18k to 9k. There isn't a breakdown by mistake type rather one has to read an entire game and look at individual mistakes within it.

I see, thank you! And is this so also in the two SDK books?

Yes in both of the SDK books there are six chapters with a game in each of them. I don't own either book though, I only looked at the contents page of the preview in SmartGo Books.

TOC of Go by example: Correcting common mistakes in double digit kyu play

Part 1
- How to improve your game
- The psychology of playing Go
- Over cautious play
- Playing on in one area
- Broadening your vision
- Keeping it simple
- Liberty shortages
- Staying connected
- Corner Life
- Life on the side
- Moyos
- Some final thoughts
Part 2
- Advancing beyond 10 kyu
- Josekis
- Life and death
- Glossary

The book uses a one move per diagram approach and, from the sample pages, comments for 40k to 15k players, but the books adds intermediate general advice suitable for up to 10k. So the book seems to be aimed at those DDKs that are very weak at reading.

These kinds of books are an interesting addition to the available books. I did not know that they exist...! IMO, "Go by example" overdoes its one move per diagram approach. 10k to 15k might find it too dull, but many beginners become 15k quickly. So has this book been useful for somebody, other than the Amazon reviewers? What do readers think?
