Good to hear that it worked out - despite the problems to keep an iPad in a stable position above the board. :)
Regarding the photos for scoring: To save them to your photo album, choose Camera > Save image.
Would you like to have ALL photos being saved to the photo album automatically? (In that case it would make sense to think about adding another switch to enable such behaviour in the settings.)

Along with improvements to image recognition and adjustments for iOS updates, these features have been recently published:

  • 5.7.2 Manual adjustment of the grid corners to exactly match the goban (if needed) is now much easier
  • 5.7.4 There is now a coffee jar available (in the settings menu), in case you want to make a donation (thanks a lot!)
  • 5.7.7 The ruleset is now also saved as a default when changed from the scoring result popup
  • 5.7.8 Baduk Cap Pro subscribers can now choose between 6 alternate app icons

When switching to scoring, the animation is currently jagged on iPad. (This problem has been introduced with iPadOS 14.)
I have an update ready to fix that, but: Ever since I upgraded my Mac to the new Big Sur OS, the connection to attached iOS devices does not work properly. As a consequence, I currently cannot do any debugging of the app on physical devices.

Until this (hopefully) gets fixed, I am not shipping any updates …

After laying some groundwork (aka refactoring) to enable this feature, there is

  • Version 5.8 For games in progress, scoring now displays points based on an influence estimation

With this, it has become much easier to count a game during fuseki or midgame.

Version 5.9 is out - here's the new functionality:

  • Lifetime Pro subscription: Use all features of the app (never expires)
  • Alternate App Icons (Pro subscription required): Ukraine Green, Ukraine Black
  • Live capture: You can now trigger photos also with a bluetooth camera remote

With Version 5.9.3, Baduk Cap now uses Artificial Intelligence in Live Capture to achieve a higher reliability of the move recognition.

Upcoming version 6.0 will include the possibility to broadcast your games to Mastodon.

Mastodon is a free and open-source software for running self-hosted social networking services. It has microblogging features similar to Twitter, which are offered by a large number of independently run nodes, known as instances, each with its own code of conduct, terms of service, privacy policy, privacy options, and content moderation policies. Since March 2023 more than 10 million users are registered in the Mastodon network.

I swear all of the best baduk related apps are always gated behind apple software. I can only guess that developers enjoy iOS but as an end user android is vastly superior in my daily life. Is there really no chance you'll ever port it to android? Is it just impossible due to some missing feature?

Technically, I have no doubt that the app would be possible on Android. However, there are other ‚missing features‘:
1. Time: Keeping the app up-to-date for the current iOS release and implementing new features already keeps me busy.
2. Hardware: Test devices are needed for development. I have multiple iPhones and iPads for testing on different iOS releases, but I do not have phones or tablets running Android.

Just bought your app, and it's awesome!

Great addition could be detecting of the numbers in the diagrams. It would be convenient for converting printed diagrams or Kifu to sgf.
