MonkDLuffy wrote: Does anybody know if it works? Hi there. Thomas gave me a promocode so I could review Baduk Cap for What's on iPhone and for L19. I'm still working on a review (just toyed a little with the app) and indeed, it works, and really well. Yesterday I replayed a Go Seigen game (GSG-Hashimoto Utaro from the early 20s) and needed only to correct 3 stones out of the 250 or so in the board. Correcting is really easy (can be done within the app itself after recognition.) I used an iPad Air (which has a better camera than older models of iPads) so results may vary slightly depending on camera quality, but I think not too much (after all, what matters is darkness-clearness of stones.) Also works fine with screenshots from pages and similar things. |

I helped Thomas with beta testing on my iPad mini and it worked well -- and I've used it on my iPhone while visiting the Chicago Go Club yesterday, worked without any finagling. It was an Ing board with Ing stones, there wasn't any color adjustment necessary. |

I just found this app the other day and it is awesome! I was driving myself nuts manually adding full board problems to EasyGo and I remembered a certain app that was supposed to do this but didn't work that well. Searched in the app store and found Baduk Cap. It worked flawlessly with decent light and a physical board. It also works with a game displayed on a monitor or TV. It even works with print with a little adjustment on the white side. It does struggle a little with the black and white diagrams, but with a light touch it worked well. I was using an iPhone 4 so it was old tech with a crappy camera. I'm certain it will work even better with the exposure tools added to the i6. One request I have is to somehow figure out a way to capture go problems that only show one corner of the board. I'm not sure how you would program it, but it might work by having a partial board feature that only runs the recognition on one quadrant of the board. I suspect joseki recognition programs do a similar thing where it is ignoring most of the board. For problems you basically only need the top left, but I could also see this as a useful featured if you want to save a local position rather than the whole game. As it stands the app is well worth the price! With the added scoring and if you can figure out local position capture that would be awesome. One last thing I just thought of is to possibly be able to anchor the corners to each other so you can move the entire grid as one, or to lock the aspect kind of like the crop feature in a phone. I know you are in your early stages of development so I just want to close out by saying that this app is awesome and has saved me about 8 hours just in one night of using it! |

Thanks for the positive feedback - I am glad Baduk Cap has been useful for you. I will think about your feature suggestions as soon as I find the time to do so. |

Finally … Baduk Cap 2.0 with Scoring (In-App Purchase) - Now available on the App Store The new scoring functionality enables you to determine the winner and score of a game by taking a picture of the final position and marking dead stones and groups. Counting the score in earlier stages of the game is also possible, but only manually (without support by a score estimator algorithm). Defaults for komi and rule set can be configured in the settings for Baduk Cap. You can try out Scoring before purchase (without display of score and game result). https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/baduk-cap/id896353586 Screenshots: |

Version 2.1 is now available and includes an improved recognition algorithm. As can been seen from the screenshots below, it can now handle brightness differences across the board. For the two sample images (from here), there is only one wrong stone, caused by a stain on the second board. Also: I am looking for people willing to help with the translation of Baduk Cap to Asian languages (Chinese/Korean/Japanese). Please send me a PM if you are interested. |

I am adding more image processing capabilities to Baduk Cap: The next version 3.0 will include automatic recognition of the grid, making the process of capturing your Go positions almost completely automatic. |

It’s been a while since I announced the addition of more image recognition capabilities. It turned out that implementing that grid recognition was more work than expected - a lot more … But: No efforts have been spared to make your life even easier when it comes to capturing those go positions! Out now: Version 3.0

Yes, Tom, this is due to development and testing of grid recognition taking longer than expected - so I started with overlay compare in parallel. |
