So i have had smartgo for a while and under tools there is "analyze game" when i point it at a sgf file it goes over it and all i see changing is the score.

what exacly does this tool do and how can i use it effectivly?

After every move it analyzes the game and guesses at a score. So after playing a game, you feed it in to SmartGo, and you get a visual bar graph and you can (hopefully) identify turning points in the game where black or white suddenly won or lost the game.

It's usefulness wanes as you get stronger, since its positional judgement and life and death skills aren't that strong. I used it to good effect as a DDK, but once you hit SDK it starts to outlive its usefulness.

Unless there's a way to hook in another go engine instead (I'm not sure). If you hooked up Mogo, for instance, you could probably get some good score estimates up through the high SDK range or beyond.

You can try to tune it by giving it more time per move, it's on the Options menu. I can't really tell you since I'm not at home, but there is a place within the Options menu where you can fiddle with it.
I think the default time is about 5 seconds... giving it some extra time will improve its results, but don't expect it to be a magic wand.
