Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has ever seen a floor go board put on a low table to play?

My knees can’t take sitting on the floor and I have heard that the floor go boards sound different
due to the inverted pyramid carved on the back (which a normal table go board does not have).. hence my question.

Thanks in advance
Oscas

I've played with floor boards on tables, with the legs removed -- the sound wasn't significantly different than a plain table board, but I'm sure that was because the space below the board wasn't open.

The Seattle Go Center has two tables like that.

When I was first in Tokyo back in the 80's My main club was all floor boards on low tables. Even now I remember feeling that my beer glass was inconveniently far from my mouth! :)

You'll occasionally see some tables specially designed for floor boards in Japan. The sides will fold out out to hold the bowls and lids.

Sadly I don't have any links or pictures to them anymore.

If you're putting the board on a hard surface, it may be wise to set the legs on something soft, like (unused) coffee coasters.

On that note, does anyone know what those little stools that the bowls are sitting in are called, and where I can find them? (None of the usual suspects like YMImports or Go Game Guru have them). I assume it's the same little stand that Shogi players use for their captured pieces, which is another reason I need one...

Low tables to put floor boards on, arm rests and back supports for use with floor boards are easily available from Japanese vendors. Try Kuroki Goishiten. If they don't list such things on their website they can get them for you.

The table with a hole on it to put the floor board through it is a great solution!!. You should still get
the "better sound" due to the floor board's pyramid cutout on the bottom but the comfort of a table board.

Not sure how much of a difference in sound there is, but that is what I have read in some websites.
