and I found out this:

https://www.go-spiele.de/en/go-students-set-master.html

but I do not know if it is good or not ... has anyone shopped from that store or this particular set for a Go club or something .?. Is it any good or could you propose to me an another set from another online store within Europe (to keep shipping affordable)

Thank you for your time.

Check out Het Paard (https://www.schaakengo.nl/goshop-keima/spelmateriaal/) They have a good selection of equipment for sale.

I’ve been using this one for over a decade, also from Hebsacker (this is their new Web site; I’m a happy long-time customer): https://www.go-spiele.de/en/beech-veneered-board-19x19-13x13-13mm-varnished-magnetic-frame-joint.html

I prefer the magnetic joint a LOT over a hinge, and here you have the additional benefit of a 13x13 board on the other side; carried it around a lot also.

wow, that is a very practical board ... indeed the magnetic joint solution seems pretty smart, since I want the board mainly to eventually try to spread the game a bit or play in some coffee shops and trips and I cannot go around carrying my nn-foldable main board (it is not that great a board, but I would feel a bit odd with it in a public place considering that people here look weird at a chess board :p).

instant bookmark :)

Does anyone know of a US seller for the magnetic joint boards? Thanks!

I used to have (almost 50 years ago) a very nice portable set. It was a wooden board that was hinged in the middle, and had a latch to hold it together when it was folded. The stones were in little cardboard boxes that fit INSIDE the folded board.

Sadly, I think that board got sucked into the ether the last time that I moved.

Does anyone know if there's such a board available now?

Thx,

TCS

From your description of the set, along with its age, I think this may be the type of set you once had:

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Vintage-Japanes ... Sw8FBbKB2U

They come up on ebay from time to time. (But I have not owned or played on one myself, so I cannot give any opinion on them.)

The board described by tundra looks like the kind found years ago with small board and stones. A standard Japanese board and stones should have something close to these measurements: (from Sensei's Library https://senseis.xmp.net/?EquipmentDimensions)

board 16.7 inch by 17.9 inch
Stones 22 mm

The small size is usable but somewhat inconvenient.

A strange turn of events...

I had ordered what looked like a cool portable Go game from "Hayneedle". Today, I got a weird email from them saying that they won't ship to private mailboxes. Phone call to them didn't help. I've been using that box for 23 years, and I've never had this happen before. It's been a long time since I've heard of a business practice that weird, and I strongly un-recommend Hayneedle.

However, I took the money that I didn't spend with them, and used it to buy that Classic Japanese Go Set that Tundra found for me on eBay...which is what I really wanted in the first place!

Strange how things work our sometimes...
