Hi -
For those looking to wax a goban - I've found the perfect solution - Renaissance micro-crystalline wax polish. It is readily available on the web, not too expensive, and can't be distinguished from Japan Sumac wax. I removed a large section of traditional wax from my goban because it was really dirty, and replaced it with Renaissance wax - the blend was perfect. Further, it simply spreads on with your fingers - no melting in or heavy rubbing. Put it on, let it sit for a couple of minutes, and rub it in. For a more traditional look - you can layer more on once you've put on a layer. Great stuff - and not expensive.
Best - Ed

A couple of questions, if I may: how deep of a layer do you apply, and is it okay to wax over the lacquer grid lines?
