This is apparently the kind of study space you will need if you want to improve from 9 kyu to 9 kyu in just one year's time.

but that game you are reviewing is too complicated even for high dan player.

It really looks like a strange game. What is it ?

Edit: I've seen a legged board protected by a clear plastic cover, and I was interested in having something of the kind for mine, to keep the game undisturbed. Does anyone have something similar, or know how to get/make one?

I seem to recall such a cover being sold by Samarkand, but their store went offline a few years ago. You might want to contact Janice Kim about the cover.

Just a thought: there a places that make custom turnable (record player) acrylic covers, and I bet they'd do one for a goban.

Hmm, thanks for the thought. Don't know if I can find one around here, but they are more likely to do one, yes. :)

Just make sure to get at least an inch of clearance on each side, and have it made taller than the board. No sense scratching up a nice board.

It doesn't look exactly like mine, but it resembles it somewhat.

Sorry for the quality, its from my cell phone.

The board was a gift from my wife a few years ago. She found a coffee table at a Good Will that was missing the glass top, and replaced the rattan surface with a piece of oak plywood, and used a wood burner to engrave the lines. You can see foot stools underneath it at that are just the right height. The picture is taken from my computer desk in my study. I also have a small (4 1/2" thick) traditional floor board I recently acquired downstairs in the living room, but I prefer this one.

Walking around with my iPhone, sitting on the bed with my laptop after the rest of my family goes to sleep...

I had a dedicated table from ikea, and a board on top of it a few years ago, but space ended up at a premium.

My study space looks a lot like Christos'... I'll be sure to say hi if we ever bump into each other there. (Although I would be very surprised.)

I don't exactly have a designated space, But I have a writing desk that I use for general study. It's kind of cluttered around it.

How can you keep your balcony from being covered in dust daily? I could never set up like that in Beijing.

Linokai,
Are those the single convex yunzi stones? How do you like them?

Post subject:  Re: Your Go study space

I like them a lot. They're definately a huge step up from the plastic stones i had *bleh*. They look really nice and they make a nice solid *klak* on the bamboo board. The only thing that took me a while to get over was how heavy they are. A friend of mine has a set of double convex glass stones that are easily twice as thick and they weigh about the same.
