Including shipping, it looks like this will be under $100. I don't know if it is real kaya though, since the wood looks like it's the wrong color. Figured I should post it anyway since a floor goban 3.5" at this price is a pretty damn good deal.

Kaya handle: Test
One leg appears to have been broken and reset badly.

This looks rather like junk to me. The board has cracked many times, on the playing surface and on the sides, and been "repaired" with wood filler. One of the endgrain sides seems to have been painted. It is certainly not kaya.

You say "junk," I say, for the right price, it has "character." :) I would definitely grab it if someone left it out by the curb.

I have a friend who is quite satisfied with his old floor goban.
It has cracks. It's a dark color, which makes seeing the lines difficult. Even so, it adds a character of excitement to playing.

I don't see anything wrong with spending under a hundred dollars for something like this. You can probably sell it for just as much if you get tired of it.

Interesting it's not listed in the board games>go section. The description compares well against the photos so the offer has an honest feel to it. I cannot tell from the photos but the side shots look like maybe the cracks have been filled with something like putty. That would be weird but the description makes no such reference.

For $100 it would indeed be a terrific bargain that comes with lots of character for free. Hope it finds a good home.

When I think of an old goban with lots of character and history, this is what I have in mind.

Maybe they saw a bloodstain?

I wouldn't say "scammed," which implies some sort of dishonesty. Whoever it was knew what they were getting.
