Anybody from or around KC? I've been looking for Go players around here and it really seems like NOBODY plays it around here. I guess it's too much in the mid-west with country folks or something? But that's not true, it's a big city with lots of different people, so I would think somebody plays. But all my attempts such as craigslist and meetup have failed so far. I've talked to several people on meetup from board game club or chess club type things. Usually I get "Oh I've heard of that" or "I've played once but don't really know how to play" and responses like that. The chess club said I was welcome to bring my board in and see if anyone wants to play, but I'm not sure I'm good enough to even teach the game properly. I mean of course I know how to play, and I know some basics of strategy and tactics, but I would feel weird walking into a room full of chess players with a different game that I can't even play well.

Anyway. So are there any folks near KC out there?

Online playing schedule: Every tenth February 29th from 20:00-20:01 (if time permits)
There used to be a very active club there many years ago with tournament twice a year in Independence Park. I attended many of them. I am sure some of those people must still be around.

The AGA has a chapter on the Kansas side: http://www.usgo.org/where-play-go?state=KS#listing

Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

Yes although I only started going recently the local KC go club has been around for a long time. We meet every Thursday and Sunday from 6-9 pm. DrStraw's link has the address but just to save you time here it is

Black Dog Coffee House
12815 W 87th Street Pkwy
Lenexa, KS 66215

I think there is also a Lawrence go club that meets on Saturdays (probably because some members come to KC on Sundays).
