I'm not sure how many other cities have this opportunity but I just wrote up an article for the "local on-line" version of our daily paper in Denver about my club. In the past, the print version of this hasn't drawn in too many people but it can't hurt, right?

Here is the link: http://dpo.st/VXeMDy

Since it only takes a little time investment I'd encourage other clubs to do the same if there is a similar set-up in your area and you are looking for some promo.

Very nice! There are some great ideas implemented in the article on how to describe the game and approach the general public.

Great lede. "Are you looking for a mental challenge or do you just want to play one of the oldest games on the planet?"

Excellent fourth paragraph. And handful of great ways to describe the game to the general public.

And a shout out to the national organization (via a reference to the annual go congress, once held in Colorado Springs).

Examples of other great remarks:

"Players of all strengths from beginners to dan ranks (a black-belt equivalent) come together to enjoy games over food and drink (if desired)."

"All of this makes for a fun and challenging sport. There is also a well-defined handicap system so players of widely different skill can come together and have a game that lets both use their full ability."

Thanks for your kind words.

I decided early on for the structure to be:

1) Hook
2) Game description/history
3) National/local area game scene
4) My club info

and it seemed to work out OK (at least to me). I'd also geared this to as broad as audience as possible so decided to ditch all jargon except very easily translatable terms.

If anyone wants, feel free to lift whatever you'd like to use from this. Let's call it a Collective Creative Commons Co-Use Condition.
