So for the last two years, I believe there was a "Go World Promotion" where, if you didn't have AGA membership, you could sign up and get some free editions of Go World.

For the last two years, I've had an AGA membership that expired in November. For that reason, I didn't take advantage of the Go World offer, since I had already just renewed my membership the previous November.

So this year, I thought I'd be smart about it, and not renew my AGA membership until January or so, when the Go World promotion is typically held... But maybe there won't be one this year, since I haven't heard word of one, yet.

tldr: Will there be a Go World promotion by the AGA this year?

I thought I was being clever by waiting until the promotion to renew my AGA membership so I could finally take advantage of the go world promotion - but I guess the joke might be on me, again.

If you are requesting on behalf of your club, you might be interested in:

In that case, you should make provisions to either store them at the club, or have a clear way for club members to request issues for a week or two. (strictly personal opinion)

I can confirm that the AGF has a massive quantity of Go Worlds in our new warehouse, here in Colorado. We have two palettes worth, thousands of issues. We are planning on using these for AGA renewal incentives, and are working on the details. Your timing would have been correct, except that we moved our warehouse from Pennsylvania to Colorado. Pretty much every aspect of our operations was affected in some way, so we are just now getting back to things like the Go World promotion.

Who are you, and when exactly did you try? Give me your AGA number and I will look into what happened. If you asked for them during the promotion dates, but never received them, we will be happy to send them to you now.

Looks like it is going to be three Go Worlds for a one year, 8 for a two year, and 15 for a three year. Obviously we are trying to make longer term renewals more appealing. Offer should be coming out soon. If you need to renew before it does, for a tourney or something, let me know and I will make sure you get the same deal.

By the way, it's worth noting publicly: After this post, Shimari contacted me, verified the situation, and made sure I've since gotten taken care of. Because these folks are awesome. =)

Yes they are. In my (aging, increasingly crotchety, GOML) mind the AGF is the group really getting things done about go promotion in the US.

Both groups are doing good and important things. It is harder in the AGA because the board is publicly elected, and there can be a lot of dissent. When things go wrong, there is always a lot of public rancor about it. This in turn has a very negative effect on all the volunteers, who spend a ton of time trying to make things better, and often don't get more than a headache for their efforts. The AGA gets very little credit when things go right though, which is often the result of huge amounts of work behind the scenes. The AGF doesn't typically have to worry about any of the things that the AGA deals with. Nobody ever gets mad at you for helping kids with free equipment, lol. Both organizations work very closely together, and I don't think either of us could be as effective without the other. And many of us, like myself, serve in both organizations. The AGF also benefits from decades of Go leadership, our board is composed of several past AGA presidents, board members, and officers.

Looks like the promotion came through. I'll go ahead and sign up for issues~!

Oh what good timing. With a tournament coming up, it was time for me to finally renew, and I was hoping this bonus would happen soon.


...But ugh. @#$!ing paypal. x.x That is the most unpleasant transaction I've ever had. Normally I just throw in my card details, there is no need to go through all that nonsense with sending someone money... It'd be nice if the AGA got it set up a little better (like KGS and many other places do it).
