So would that be 3 pts total for a dan correction on top of the middle brother correction, or is it still just 2?

Thanks, Violence. :)

3 total, Shaddy.

If we made it 2, there's no penalty for the kyu player to change something if he thinks the dan player will change the move regardless.

Whoa. Phelan, you're a ninja. I did not even see you there.

We have our 6, looks like? Anyone wanna start the thread?

What are the teams?

I flipped a coin twice to determine teams: coin said the teams are:

Phelan
Marcus
Violence

jts
dango
Shaddy.

So, shall we dance?

Man, here's where I wanted to use my Layton on a Charizard "Come at me, bro" pic, but alas, I have already used it.

Go ahead and make the thread.

Umm... I'd like to sign up for a big brother malk game, as a little brother. How would that work? Is it ok?

As my 9x9 with redundant nears its poetic conclusion, I'll register interest. Probably as a middle brother.

I make many blunders, but sometimes I can find normal sequences. Finding which moves begin mistakes would be interesting.

If there is a new one starting up I'd like to sign up. I'm currently 7k on KGS which apparently is the accepted range for the little brother and I can probably check the thread at least once a day.

Hopeful that something might work out

Alright :) , topazg and I would be happy to play a 2v2 game with you, Mnemonic. I'm 8k KGS, so basically your level, and I think topazg is 1d roughly? Not entirely sure! Hopefully someone suitable will volunteer to be your big brother :D .

Was 2d on KGS last time I had a stable rank, but I suspect that's over rated, and I'm more somewhere between 1 and 2. Frankly, I'm not sure either :P

Either way, I'm more comfortable calling it 1, and I suspect if I played enough to get a completely stable rank it's the most likely place for it to settle.

PS: Are we doing the "points for edits" or the "edit limits" method - I much prefer the latter, because of the tactical aspects of preserving them for really important moves, but we should be explicit.

I'm happy to do it that way - I have no experience with Malkovich so far so you guys know better than I do! Is it the case that the higher player wants to correct the lower one on almost every move? If so, what would be a good baseline number for the amount of edits allowed in our game? And do we get a new edit every so often?

The way I like best is 10 corrections, and you get one back for every 5 moves you don't make a correction :)

Cool, okay, sounds good to me! Now here's hoping I don't make 11 atrocious mistakes in a small period of time  ...

Sure, I'll accept your challenge. Now if some friendly 1d would like to step up ... :salute:

About the amount of changes: Until now I was only a spectator instead of a player in BB Malkovich games but I liked a system where the dan players had an impact on the game. Now while #1 might have gone a bit overboard IMHO #3 is a bit light. Since this would be a 2v2 I'd suggest a similar system to #2 which I think works very well.

We will also be trying a quota as opposed to a point system for big brother changes. There will be no point penalty for changes, but the changes will be limited. Each team starts with a counter of 10 total changes, and after every five consecutive moves without a change this counter will increment by one. The total amount of available changes may not exceed 10.

Since this system will encourage the Big Brother to change moves rapidly when approaching 10 available changes I suggest lifting the ban, but reducing the starting amount of changes to 9 (because the first 10 moves rarely see any changes)

'Lifting the ban'? Sorry, what do you mean by that? :)

In the current BB#2 the maximum amount of changes is capped at 10. I propose to lift that cap but start with 9 possible changes. Experience shows that the first moves were changed somewhere between move 10-20. That way we effectively start with 10 corrections but the Big Brother isn't goaded to change the first move quickly because he can then quickly start regaining points. I don't believe that my system will change the game play in any huge way; it's just a rule tweak that I think is sensible. If you don't like it we can go back to the system currently used in BB#2

Basically I propose a Fischer type scoring whereas they used a Bronstein system :D
