For triggers, you choose your move, then you check the trigger and accept it or not. At least, that's how I do it . I accept yours.
Sticking to the plan. I chose the wedge instead of the approach to avoid the one-space low pincer. I guess that was quite predictable; his trigger is exactly what I had in mind...

Black didn't exchange B4 for c3 before he played D9, so I feel that taking this spot is a good move.
Follow-up might look something like this unless black elects to defend his group. It depends on the ko-threats, but at the moment there's not much on the board in the way of ko-threats for black, meaning this sequence would favor me.
I went for the proper move. It makes this group quite thick. I don't think the exchange with white's last move is bad for black: white's move is on the inside, while black's is on the outside, which is more desirable this early in the game. I'd like to tenuki and play at below, but I don't think I can afford it:
White's follow-up in the lower leeft looks severe. It is even possible that he would be able to make a moyo by combining this counter-attack with his forcing moves at the top.

I'm fine with that; he as a weakness at 'a' and the group on the top is still weak. As an aside, I just feel like we are both so predictable Everything seems to be going according to plan for both sides, so one player's plan is probably flawed... I hope it's not mine!

Yay! Complications! I like complications1. My first thought is to ignore his move and harass his group on the right while preventing the connection underneath. I'm looking at 'a', 'b' and 'c', and I'm trying to read what happens if he ignores any of them to capture my two stones on the left. If he does, it looks like I can kill in ko by playing at 'd', and he doesn't have any ko threat, but it's quite difficult reading (for me at least). More reading is required
After a lot of analysis, I don't think ignoring this move turns out well. I checked many variations, but it seems that black cannot live in the upper left, while white's life hinges on the ko in the upper right. I win this ko. However, if white plays, say, 'a' and 'b' below in exchange, I don't think I come out ahead. Therefore, I have to respond to his move more directly.
A - Simple option. White gets territory, black gets influence. B - Will probably take a for myself and try to trade the groups and get sente to play elsewhere.
This was my original plan. If black then launches an assault on my group, I will take sente elsewhere and the game is looking excellent for me. If he plays elsewhere, I can move the group out and weaken black's center group with one move.
