@Sleepy:
Thanks! I'm glad it helps you!
@Bill:
Thanks for those variations. I've heard you talk about the 2x3 space before, but I can't find any information on it online. Does it also go by another name? Thanks!
@knotwilg:
I appreciate that! I've made it a (sort of) objective to achieve the "rank" of 1 dan in my lifetime. Basically this just boils down to a way to motivate me to keep studying and it's more mentally that "1 dan" says something like: you can play Go. I feel like 1 dan would be like getting your diploma: You studied hard, you know some stuff, now the real work can begin.
It won't be a disaster if I don't make it, and if I lose interest in Go along the way, I'll have had my fun, so it's all good. Like I said, it's just a thing to be kept in my head for now. Because if I ever do make it, I won't just say: okay I'm done with Go.
But I feel it's okay to have some ambition. And while ranks are articifial and worthless, it's a way to express a certain strength. I could say 3 kyu, because that's also a high level, but then 1 dan just sounds so much better
