Here are three games I played against "chatterbox" on KGS.

In this one, I took Black. Result is W+108.5

Here, I took White. Result is B+29.5

I took Black. Result is W+146.5

I estimate the strength of this robot to be in the range of 5-3k. In any case I had difficulty making any headway against it. In my last game I tried a more unconventional style of play, only to lose by a humongous margin. Hopefully my play in each of three games can be compared to find any differences in play.

I think you made some fundamental mistakes. (Click the spoilers to open them.)

Moves 13, 15, 23, 25 and 27 all violate the proverb "corners first, then sides, then centre". It is very hard to make points in the centre, as you saw when white destroyed them all. White's moves up until there (and even after there) were all very sensible - all on the third or fourth lines, only jumping down to the second line when it was critical to start making eyes, and only jumping up to the fifth line to prevent your groups becoming very big. At this point, you've already lost, I think.

Have a look at the board after move 32. White has two weak groups: the two stones on the bottom which are far apart and high (that is, it's easy for black to jump underneath or in the middle of these stones and deprive them of eyes), and the two stones in the centre (eyeless and close to black's thickness). Black is strong everywhere, and (correctly) spends most of the middlegame chasing around and attacking these two groups. They don't die, but 100 moves later they have made very few points, and black has built up the right and the top and reduced the left and lower left while attacking them.

Same mistakes as the first game.

Think of building a house. You first lay the foundations - you don't want your house to collapse, so you first put down something reliable and stable to build on top of. You then start building, one layer at a time. The higher up you build, the more careful you have to be - but as long as you've ensured that everything you're building on is stable, then what you're building is stable. Likewise in go. The reason we start in corners is because corner stones are very stable - they live very quickly and withstand a lot of pressure, so are a foundation for everything that will happen next. We then build out from corner stones onto the sides, and once they are stable, we build from our 'base' on the side into the centre.

After move 15 of this third game, you are building on thin air, and your opponent rightly attacks the weakness in your foundations - the gaps on the side. I think that, if you pay close attention to the strength of the foundations of your groups, you will improve quickly.

Or, if you do, try using ctrl-plus. ( Hold down the 'Ctrl' key, and while it is depressed, press the '+' key. )
