Right now my User Information contains the following information

Quote:
2K Up: +4 1K Down: -11 / 2K Down: -14

and
Quote:
RP/Grade 18695/50.3

Does anyone know what these numbers mean? The 1K Up and 2K Up I thought meant the number of wins needed to rank up, but that does not seem to be the case. RP must be Rating Points, but what is grade?

Thanks in advance.

I think that is the case; I think your info reads "+4 wins" and you will be promoted +2k.
What I don't know is whether it means "4 consecutive wins" or "4 wins out of the last N games", and I don't know N.
Same thing for the negative numbers: "lose 11 games," you drop 1k; "lose 14 games," you drop 2k.
Again, does it mean "11 consecutive losses" & "14 consecutive losses",
or "11 losses out of X games" & "14 losses out of Y games"?

IMO these guys need to take an introductory course in user interface design.

Well, previously my User Information said "1K Up: +1." When I won my next game this line disappeared, but my rank didn't change so we can rule out consecutive wins. Maybe it evaluates the your rank after N games (as EdLee suggests) and given a certain positive differential (+10 promotes you 1 rank and +14 promotes you 2 ranks) or negative differential (-11 demotes you 1 rank and -14 demotes you 2 ranks) your rank will change accordingly and then wipe the slate.

Assuming N=15, a 66.7% win percentage within a rank per section promotes you and a 93.3% win percentage within a rank per section promotes you twice. Okay, that's interesting, but what then is the purpose of rating points, and what is a grade anyway?!

EDIT: N=20 for dan ranks and N=15 for kyu ranks, I suspect.

Ah, not necessarily. :) Your previous info had more than just "1k Up: +1" --
it also said "2k Up: +N" -- when you won the following game, you did not rank up because it was WAITING --
if you won +N, you would get +2k, instead of +1k. :)

In other words, when it says "1k Up: +M / 2k Up: +N" -- it means if you win "M games" you go up 1k,
but if you win "N games", you go up 2k! The question remains: "consecutive" or what???

I believe the wins must be consecutive to guarantee the rank up in the number specified. If you lose, the numbers adjust, I think.

I haven't looked into it recently, but I seem to recall it being like a staircase. The +X tells you that you have X stairs to go to the next rank, and the -Y tells you that you have Y stairs to go down to the previous rank. If you win, you move up a stair, and if you lose, you go down a stair.

I'm not totally sure this is precisely the system, as it's been awhile since I've looked at it. But I think it's somewhat close to this.

Where have you read about their ranking system?

Well, I posted that from personal experience. However, when I look it up, there might be some information here: http://www.tygem.com/help/Aboard/viewpa ... bun=&b5=#5

It seems that this portion is relevant:
Quote:

So basically, it seems that, from 18k to 1k, the most recent 15 games are used as the standard. Out of those 15 games as a standard, if you have a win rate of 65% or higher (eg. 10 wins, 5 losses or more), you move up one rank. Out of those 15 games, if you have a 90% or higher win rate, you move up 2 ranks (eg. 14 wins, 1 loss or more).

From 1d to 4d, it uses the most recent 20 games as standard. Out of those 20 games as a standard, if you have a 70% win rate or higher (eg. 14 wins, 6 losses or more), you move up one rank. Out of those 20 games as a standard, if you have a 90% win rate or higher (eg. 18 wins, 2 losses), you move up 2 ranks.

From 5d-9d, it uses the most recent 20 games as a standard. If you have a 75% or higher win rate (15 wins, 5 losses or better), you move up 1 rank. If you have a 100% win rate (20 games in a row of pure wins), you move up 2 ranks.

Provided that I understood the text correctly, this seems to be the system.

Is Japanese less useless than Korean? ;)

Anyway, you have to be patient for my translation... :)

Thanks, Kirby. Also, from looking at various users' information it seems that once you reach the threshold for a +2 promotion, you gain that promotion immediately and begin the next section.

Does anyone know what the GP number means in your profile? The RP total is clear enough, since it just indicates your rank with every thousand points being a stone over 18k, but I haven't been able to figure out what the GP score has to do with anything.

It's not consecutive. Tygem divides players into classes and has them rank up/down with different win percentages of different numbers of games.

When you open up your stats, I think you should see next to the "1k+ 2k+" bar "Recent #". The number is the number of games it will take into account for your rank changes.

It changes based on the class of player you are, so higher rated players need higher win percentages among a higher number of games to advance.
