6th PGETC Games Are Rated D Class

According to the decision made in the Annual General Meeting 2015 of the European Go Federation, the Internet tournaments are rated in D Class (0.25 factor on rating) during the experimental period from August 2015 to July 2017.

The 6th Pandanet Go European Team Championship Leagues A, B and C will follow this convention.

I am slightly surprised to learn that it is to be class D, since it was written "9.The online tournament shall not offer money prize as a strict control of the players and their game is impossible." Isn't it the case that for league A, if you finish in the top 4 you are going to win a prize, and thus only leagues B and C could be counted. It also isn't strictly within rule 3, but maybe we would be far too strict to care about that silly rule.

The only Internet tournaments so far in the European Go Database are all PGETC Leagues A, B and C, and it doesn't make sense a) not to rate League A or b) drop the money prizes for the finals.

Why ever did our collective representatives vote for this silly rule then? It is just outrageous! I am outraged!

And I'm surprised they are D class (x0.25) when they were C class (x0.5) for the last few years (unless you opted out). Now I would need to beat Victor Chow 4 times to make up for one silly real-life loss against a 1d!

It doesn't make sense, but applying one of the above seems to be the correct procedure now, since the new rating rules are in place.

Based on the EGF Executive Board decision, the Pandanet Go European Championship will go back to the previous policy of rating the PGETC games. The games are rated C Class (weight factor 0.5) and individual team members have the possibility to not have their games rated. However, as the tournament is already running, this opting out should be informed through team captains to the league managers by Monday 28 September.

The earlier announcement of D Class rating has been withdrawn.

Vesa
