Hi,

I am thinking of playing in some European tournaments in the future.
Maybe I can go to 2-3 different countries each year. That would be fun! :D
So I started to search for a central tournament calendar to plan for which tournaments to go to.

On the eurogofed I found a link to http://senseis.xmp.net/?EuropeanGoTournamentCalendar

Is this the only source available?
It seems that organizers are not so good at updating this list.

Then I found this site http://www.eurogofed.org/eurocup/calendar.htm
Several of these tournaments are not mentioned on Sensei's.
I guess _a lot_ of national tournaments are planned but not published on Sensei's.

So does it exist some more updated database?
Or do I have to use google to find each clubs tournament in each countries language?

Ah, yes there are some more! :)
I missed the link because I mistook it for a page title.

This page is quite good but I would like to see more tournaments in it.

I wonder how "Major European Tournament" is defined. If it is measured by the number of participants, then the Cologne Tournament is surely missing. In the last years over 100 players showed up.

I don't know exactly what Major European Tournament means :) but you have to take into consideration that the page is not updating by itself. Someone does it. If she or he doesn't get the info from the organizers ...

Maybe the fact that Cologne is missing from that page is just organizers' bad marketing. This is just an assumption but there may be some truth in it: just take a look at the link you provided: there is a site in German. Hmm ... not everyone understands German ... that's bad marketing ;-) ... or the tournament is a local one, not an international one.

National and international events can be advertised on this page (shown in black) - please email your details.

All open tournaments can probably be listed there.
Only closed tournaments can not. Like a club championships.
So the Cologne tournaments organizers should email the details to EGF, if they want foreigners to come and play.

Some tournament directors don't want more participants because they have enough already.

It's quite nice if you get too many, rather than too few, participants though. :)

Nope, I was told that this indeed happens. And it is perfectly understandable, if you consider limited space at tournament locations, limited equipment and limited size of the organizing body etc.

No indeed; the "arg, I'm not going to have enough tables or enough equipment" crisis is very real! Rare, but very real - Go players (at least in the UK) are very bad at remembering to enter in advance, so you never really know until the day how many people to expect. Which makes making preparations quite hard ...

Just prepare enough for 50 ppl if you know you will have 25. Thats how we do it in Croatia. Did you ever see a overcrowded tournament here? No. Did you ever see tournament with more than 50 ppl. here? No, but thats another question :)

Yes, I had 54 at Durham this year. :)

In the UK we transport kit around in lots of 12 - well, 12 boards, 12 sets of stones, 15 clocks, to take into account breakages - and so I never quite know whether two lots will be enough or I'll need three. (We have some club kit, of course, but not many clocks ... it can get quite nerve-racking when you know there are, because there always are, some last-minute attendees, but you don't know how many of them there'll be ...)

Ah, I see, but this wouldn't apply to the Cologne tournament. Last year they had prepared more than 80 tables, so enough places for 160 players. Around 120 actually showed up.

Well, in the Cologne tournament this problem is solved by deducting the entrance fee for pre-registered players. There are still people who haven't pre-registered, but that's managable.
