Hello. I am 23 kyu. My study will consist of playing at least 1 game per day. I will also be doing graded go problems for beginners volume 1. replay 1 game per 2 days by shusaku and shuei. I will switch between them. I will also read lessons in the fundamentals of go.

If he's 24/23kyu I don't get how he's going to be able to know his mistakes. Unless you mean seriously obvious ones like a group captured.

He can certainly detect mistakes like
  • misreading life-and-death problems
  • not seeing that a group lacks liberties and can get captured.

He can also ask for help on this forum.

Certainly? Unclear. But he can certainly try.
We have no idea what he can and cannot see until we sit down and go through a few reviews to get some general ideas. Individuals vary greatly.

True.

Hi, I've been hanging around this Forum for a while now and I've also just started playing Go recently too. I'm ranked at 20kyu on OGS (albeit against bots). I read your post and decided to register here in order to reply to you in case you wanted someone around your rank to play against. I'm reading books and intend to grow my rank steadily as I try to implement what I have learned, perhaps we can grow together, I think it can benefit us both greatly.

1. It's a good habit. Asking yourself "why did I lose" or "why did I win" is a very helpful question to ask, even if you get your own answer wrong.
2. At any level, you are stronger when analyzing than when playing, or at least you see some things you didn't

I played 1 game. I lost badly. I did 23 problems of graded go problems for beginners vol 1. Replayed shusaku and shuei games. read a few chapters of lessons in the fundamentals of go.

This is a game I played. I was white

In the above game, the most consistent shortcoming is that you play too solidly and too defensively.

I won't comment every move, here are a few remarks:

:w10: is not a bad move, but all your stones are on the right side. It seems better to develop on other parts of the board, for instance approach the lower left corner with F3.

:w16: at Q5 is more standard. It makes a corner enclosure, and at the same time puts a little pressure on the two black stones.

:w26: unnecessary. There are bigger parts on the board. For instance, the upper left corner hasn't been approached yet.

:w34: completely useless defensive move.

:w56: is useless. If Black cuts at O5, you can capture with O6 P5 Q6 (geta).

:w68: is an empty triangle. This is a bad shape, to be avoided except in rare circumstances.

:w84: again an empty triangle.

:w86: again.

:w88: you wanted to make an eye? That's not necessary. Your group is already alive since you have a big territory on the lower right.

:w90: same remark.

:w92: is almost hopeless, since you are surrounded. You have wasted many moves previously, you should have approached the top left corner earlier.

Black's move 165 doesn't work. To kill this stone, do not attach against it, but remove its base, for instance with S5. Then Black doesn't have any space to make two eyes.

P.S. Making two "explicit" eyes can be necessary when your territory is small, but if your territory is large, you shouldn't waste time doing that. With a large territory, your opponent couldn't prevent you from making two eyes if you really wanted to, so you can play elsewhere.
