Seems like a nice idea.

Here's this week's game from the AYD.

I guess it was kind of fun. Maybe the amount of fun I have is inversely proportional to the amount that I tell myself I should be studying (Note: I often don't study when I tell myself that I should be studying, and that just makes me feel guilty).

Or maybe it's just because I won. I dunno - I suppose I still like this game. A spark of interest is still there, at least :o

My weekly AYD game.

I lost, and I never felt ahead. Ouch!

Oh well. I suppose it was still fun.

This week's AYD game:

Kind of lucky to have killed that group. I haven't really been studying, and I'm wondering if luck is inversely related to the amount of time I study. Study or not study - around the same level. Seems that way, at least :-p

Incidentally, the last game of the month for me was rescheduled to tomorrow. That's because on Saturday, KGS went crazy, and nobody could connect.

I'm going to try hard to win that one, because if I win, I think it means I can go into the A league for February. That'd be nice.

If I lose, I likely stay in B... That'd be less nice.

Stay tuned :salute:

Post subject:  Re: Kirby's Study Journal

And the result is...

I lost the game, and will stay in the B league. I not only lost, but I lost by a whopping 57.5 points!

I mentioned the capture at the end, but I don't really understand the game at all. Early on, I'm thinking that E11 was a bad idea - I probably should have aimed for the entire gruop... Maybe I'm too tired today.

It's painful, but somehow, I want to stop tying my enjoyment to go with winning, because it means that a lot of the time I'm not happy. OTOH, I still want to be committed to winning.

It's a tough balance to achieve.

Maybe I should start playing games outside of the AYD. Love him or hate him, the creator of Dilbert has advocated systems/processes over goals. Maybe I need to find enjoyment from the system of studying and playing go.

Life is weird.

"Weird" is weird, because its said like weered but spelt like wayered, or whered if you're French.

weird is awful, which is awfully frightening, unless you're a witch who can predict the future from an eye of newt and toe of frog.

Try dancing in a circle, thrice to thine, and thrice to mine, and see if that helps.

last time someone complained when i had Swim look at your move before the one you were curious about, so this time i won't do that...

usually i ask Swim before asking Leela, but as the board is so empty, i asked Leela first, and this is what she said (although i suppose you probably already know that):

and then i asked gomap, but she said:

The Doctor is OUT.

i'm sure you already know where you went wrong at move 208, so won't embarrass you by pointing out your blunder, but it might help others to know that black can be pushed into a shape that will make white alive if black goes that far; there's no ko. i think it's called ishii na shita. Leela reckons you can pop a stone in on the side (a kikashi yose) then tenuki and turn away to the top right.

oops, you had said E11, not move 11. There, you see, there's at least one person that's dumber than you.

E11 looks to me like a typical pyschotic kyu move, attacking for the sake of it. if i were white i would have played D12 instead, making black heavier and strengthening the left. As black, i would respond to E11 with F12, threatening a net, forcing white to make himself heavy and then take aim at the two silly white stones in the middle.

But hey, what do i know? Leela goes for it...(see next message)

Don't worry - I'm not that easily embarrassed by go these days. I wouldn't post 60 point losses otherwise. I still don't like losing, though, when I invest more time into studying, I feel more pressure and embarrassment from the mistakes.

BTW, thanks for the analysis.

Gosh, you sound almost human! What you are experiencing is what everybody experiences when they try and fail - why, i have even thrown my 5-iron 30 yards, whereupon it landed at an awkward angle and bent its shaft into 90 degrees.

Zen teachers say the way to Enlightenment is not to study, but to empty your mind, so you can come to know yourself, to learn to go with the flow of Nature.

There is a flow to a Go game too, but as it is not the consequence of beautiful natural laws of cause and effect, but the creation of the interference of the psychopath Berserker sitting opposite you flailing about, the flow of a real-life Go game is as Brownian as pollen dancing in the breeze, so Zen is no help at all.

So, unless you become enlightened enough to see the Truth that Go is a complete waste of time, you have no choice but to bow your head 5 times a day and follow the prophet Alfie (Peace be Upon Her) and read, read, read, read.

Alfie has been to the mountaintop, and She has seen the glory of the cunning Go-ing of the Lord, and it is written that it doesn't matter whether you can understand what you read, just so long as you read all the way to the end and back again a few gerzillion times.

That's not too much to ask, is it?

Seems we are divided by a common language, as we are using the word weird in two different ways. I could explain about MacBeth's witches, but as it would probably only get me booted off to Off Topic again or OUT again, i have taken myself off there.

This week's AYD game is here.

I'd like to submit it for the blooper reel. For loads of laughs, skip to move 271 where I graciously decide to give the game to my opponent ;-)

Sad thing is, I don't really feel bad about it. Oh well.
