I am a new Go player. I used to play a lot of correspondence chess (snail and later email with IECC--from ~18** to 23** in 6 years before I became inactive) but it eventually got to feel like I was playing half my games against a computer. This on top of needing to stay up with the latest opening theory before reaching some independent thought in the middle game.
Anyway, I recently retired as a math editor--or really semi-retired, as I still teach a few math classes at Purdue--and I thought that learning to play a new (or very old!) game that has not been so exhaustively analyzed would be fun and good for my old brain.
Right now I am "preparing in secret" before starting to play at KGS.
Which I plan on doing in one month when I close out this semester. I hope to give many others some enjoyment in drubbing me my first 50 games this spring/summer.
