The Korean Prime Minister's Cup 2014 was won by the Korean representative with 6/6, China came second with 5/6:

The Taipei representative only lost to the top two but came 7th. That does not seem right when no one above him played the top two.

And that's why the KPMC is an inferior tournament to the WAGC. There are some really questionable results here, e.g. the #3 player didn't play anyone strong, same for the #6 player. In fact, the only top 10 player they each played was each other. Big fields need more rounds, unless you only care about getting the right winner.

Also, the pairing is not aimed at getting a realistic ranking beside the winner. AFAIK, they use adjacency pairing, which means that within the same score group, they pair the player with the highest SOS against the player with the second highest SOS. That's why Taiwan, who had already played Korea and Japan, was paired against China in the last round, while Mexico, who had not met any of the top countries, was paired against Denmark. And it is true that both of those are probably more evenly matched, and therefore more interesting, pairings than e.g China-Mexico and Taiwan-Denmark, but it does not result in a realistic end ranking.

Indeed the KPMC, much like the WAGC, places almost no value on this. Their interest lies only in seeing who the winner is.
