I thought I'd post this for commentary. It was a very fun game. And hard, too. lol

On that note, we've currently completely 5 out of 40 games for this month ... just sayin' ;)

I am going to pay with Daniel on Saturday and ez4u on Sunday in group C.

I contacted CSamurai and LucianoS last Saturday but have no feedback as yet.

I'm playing Mnemonic on Friday at 5pm CEST, and philip1882 at 5pm EST (or is it EDT?) today.

Tofu still has exams, so we'll play later. There's no worries for me and Shaddy, as we know each other IRL.

Congratulations Haily, for me ( mokum ) it was a stress game, you are too good. Would you mind to move the game to the Game Analyses section. Maybe we get some more response. You might post it in name of us both.

I agree, I think the system is more suitable for significantly stronger players than are currently participating. It is suitable only for those games where the variance of scores is low, where 31 points is a very extreme score. At pro level, for example, 50% of games are decided by 10 points or less.

Possibly profs, behind 10 points, playing this Hahn system are willing to gamble more, risking 30 points losses. Have there been Hahn-tournaments for profs?

Alright, I shall post it. Personally, I think 6 points isn't too high of a margin, so you played really well too.

I suck  And I thought I stood some chance because I recently beat out local 1k with 7 stones and I got 30 points komi (at least that was my way of looking at it) Well, maybe I should just start playing stronger players more often since I suck at taking black. Problem is there are no dan players at my club (this is like my second game against a dan player) Sometimes I envy the players who worked up the ladder by playing games with decreasing handicap against incredibly strong players. Since I was 15k most of my games have be as white with increasing handicap against me

When I was in the 3-7k range I was often the strongest person at my club. But as the club aged, it got stronger, and then we were strong enough to take reasonable handicaps from dan players, and then a dan player started coming regularly. And then there was reason for another one to come and then another, and now we have the opposite problem, we rarely have anyone weaker than about 6k, and often there are more dans than kyus. So, just give it time. :) I'll probably never be the strongest player to show up at club again, which is nice.

I just played CSamurai and won by more than 31.

My opponent was psyched out by my apparent rank advantage - it rather tainted the game. Just for the record no one has anything to fear from my less than glorious past on KGS :blackeye:

To make up for my lack luster performance against ez4u, I played karaklis, and won by resignation.

I just played CSamurai and lost by resignation. I played white and it was a complete disaster. It seems I clearly need practice

Karaklis and I just played a very exciting game. Karaklis made the game quite hard for me, but in the end my risks paid off. daniel_the_smith+R

It looks like you are allowed to resign in these games. I didn't realize this, and told Jordus that I didn't think we could. That was my fault.

Is it a joke ?

First, Jordus didn't play like a 5k (sorry), and second, beating someone by 364 pts without permitting resigning is just humiliation.

Either it is a joke they both prepared, or I'm surprised by Kirby...

I also find this game, and result, rather surprising - without wishing to prejudge what happened, I do think the players owe the rest of us an explanation. (Perhaps Jordus deliberately played to let everything die when told he couldn't resign, or something - I don't know.)

Kirby already said he was mistaken.

We've demonstrated numerous times that it's quite difficult to accurately judge rank from a game. Psychology being what it is (play bad -> disappointed -> play worse -> more disappointed, etc), I don't have too much trouble believing that it's real, especially after reading the depictions of bangneki in "First Kyu" (great book, btw). I think white was very lucky in that game several times.

Also, I see from the table on the first page that Kirby is being pretty modest about his level...
